NFL 2019 Week 3 Picks

Hello readers! The third week of the National Football League regular season is soon upon us! There's bound to be some good matchups this week, some average ones, and some probably bad ones. Nevertheless we will talk about them this week as well as a NFL 100 spotlight, highlighting one of the biggest gaffes in NFL history. Let's get to work!

NFL 100: A Spotlight

When it comes to gaffes in NFL history, you have The Butt Fumble in 2012, Garo Ypremian's attempted pass in Super Bowl VII, or Leon Lett's attempt to recover the ball in the 1993 Thanksgiving game against the Dolphins. None of them can really compare to Jim Marshall's Wrong Way Play.

On October 25th, 1964, the 3-3 Minnesota Vikings traveled to Kezar Stadium in San Francisco to take on the 2-4 San Francisco 49ers. The Vikings are entering their 4th season in existence since they became an expansion team in 1961. The 49ers had a decent quarterback in John Brodie who was entering into his 8th season as a quarterback.

The game started out well for the 49ers with San Fran striking first with a Brodie 2-yard run to give the 49ers a 7-0 lead. Vikings kicker Fred Cox got the Vikings on the board with a field goal, 7-3 49ers. John Brodie would hit Dave Parker for a 80-yard touchdown, Brodie's only touchdown pass on the day, 14-3 49ers. Running back Tommy Mason ran it into the endzone on a 7-yard play for the Vikings, reducing the lead to 14-10. Tommy Davis of the 49ers hit a field goal to give the 49ers a 17-10 lead going into halftime. Fred Cox was called in to hit a field goal again for the Vikings, he hits it, reducing the lead to 17-13 in favor of San Francisco. Minnesota would finally get on the board with an 8-yard run from quarterback Fran Tarkenton, 20-17 Vikings. Jim Marshall's linemate, Carl Eller, would get a touchdown from a fumble, 27-17 Vikings.

The play itself was a pass play that John Brodie would throw to running back Billy Kilmer. Kilmer was stripped and in the chaos Jim Marshall would grab the ball in the direction that Kilmer was heading, towards the endzone that was in Vikings territory. Marshall had thought he had scored a touchdown but it ended up being a safety due to the fact he was running the wrong way. Reducing the Viking lead to 27-19.

The Vikings would ultimately win the game 27-22 but the game and play would live on in NFL lore as one of the biggest gaffes in NFL history. What stands out to me is that Marshall would go on to play the game until 1979, nearly 20 years in the NFL. Sadly his team would go onto four Super Bowls and losing all four. At the end of the season the Vikings would post their first winning record in franchise history. They wouldn't win a division title until 1968 and they would win their first and only NFL championship in 1969. For the 49ers in 1964 it would be their third straight losing season but they would post a 7-6-1 record in 1965. They wouldn't make the playoffs until 1970 and they won't win their first Super Bowl until Super Bowl XVI

Week 3 Picks!

Week 3 of the NFL regular season starts in Jacksonville, Florida and ends in Landover, Maryland. There will be a Thursday night game, eight early games, five late games, a Sunday night game, and a Monday night game. No teams are on a bye week. FOX will have the single game while CBS will have the double-header. Let's get to the picks!

Tennessee (1-1) @ Jacksonville (0-2) (NFL Network): TW: Jaguars; CV: Titans

Both teams lost last week as the Titans lost to the Colts and the Jaguars lost to the Texans. The game is a tough one to pick, both teams haven't shown real flashes of spectacular play. Gardner Minshew has been a bright spot for the Jaguars since Nick Foles got injured in Week 1. If the Jaguars want to win they need Leonard Fournette to have a good game and have the defense continue its play. I'm willing to give the Jags a chance.

Denver (0-2) @ Green Bay (2-0) (FOX): TW: Packers; CV: Broncos

Last week the Broncos lost to the Bears and the Packers beat the Vikings. The big matchup is going to be Aaron Rodgers vs the Broncos defensive front. Denver's secondary isn't that great so I certainly expect the Packers offense continue to gel in Matt LeFleur's offense. I give the Packers defense the edge over the Broncos defense in this game. Denver is not a slouch I'll give them that.

Cincinnati (0-2) @ Buffalo (2-0) (CBS): TW: Bills; CV: Bills

The Bengals lost to the 49ers and the Bills beat the Giants last week. Josh Allen has been an underrated quarterback in the league and the Bills are a surprising 2-0 so far this season. The Bengals offense feels somewhat limited with AJ Green not in the lineup, so I feel the Bills defense has an edge in that department. Josh Allen needs to continue to play well and have their running game do well against a 30th ranked rush defense. I'll take the Bills.

Detroit (1-0-1) @ Philadelphia (1-1) (FOX): TW: Eagles; CV: Eagles

The Lions got a win against the Chargers and the Eagles lost to the Falcons last week. Philly has some injuries and the Lions have a huge test to prove just how well they can play against a quality opponent. The Eagles pass defense needs to play better against the 7th ranked pass offense in the Lions. I feel Wentz and company find a way to get it done.

NY Jets (0-2) @ New England (2-0) (CBS): TW: Patriots; CV: Patriots

The Jets lost to the Browns and the Patriots beat the Dolphins last week. Luke Falk didn't show much on Monday night and I can't expect the Jets offense to get a lot on the Patriots. Tom Brady would have to have a bad game to give the Jets an edge in the game, which doesn't happen a lot. I don't trust the Jets but I trust fellow Tom to get it done.

Oakland (1-1) @ Minnesota (1-1) (FOX): TW: Vikings; CV: Vikings

Both teams took losses last week as the Raiders lost to the Chiefs and the Vikings lost to the Packers. Kirk Cousins hasn't done a lot to prove that he is a good quarterback as his running game has carried the load. I feel it'll change in this game but I won't hold my breath if he throws an interception early in the game. The Vikings defense will keep the Raiders offense in check.

Baltimore (2-0) @ Kansas City (2-0) (CBS): TW: Chiefs; CV: Chiefs

Both teams got wins last week as the Ravens beat the Cardinals and the Chiefs beat the Raiders. This game somehow isn't on the late slate as its probably the best game of the week. I expect a shootout in the game as both teams have great offenses. While I do feel the Ravens defense is better than the Chiefs defense, the quarterback matchup certainly leans towards the Chiefs.

Miami (0-2) @ Dallas (2-0) (FOX): TW: Cowboys; CV: Cowboys

The Dolphins lost to the Patriots and the Cowboys beat the Redskins. I feel another blowout loss is in order for the Dolphins, not that I hate the Dolphins but reality hurts.

Atlanta (1-1) @ Indianapolis (1-1) (CBS): TW: Colts; CV: Falcons

Both teams got wins last week as the Falcons beat the Eagles and the Colts beat the Titans. Jacoby Brissett vs the Falcons pass defense is going to be the big matchup in the game. I feel it will also depend on which running game gets going. Tough game to call but I will go with the home team in their home opener.

Carolina (0-2) @ Arizona (0-2) (FOX): TW: Cardinals; CV: Panthers

Both teams took losses last week as the Panthers lost to the Buccaneers and the Cardinals lost to the Ravens. The game will depend on the health of Cam Newton, if he's in the Panthers have a good shot to win, if he's not it could be a Cardinals win. I'm leaning towards Cam Newton not playing so I'll take the Cardinals. Kyle Allen could have a stellar day against the Cards defense but the Panthers offense didn't get a lot of yardage last week.

NY Giants (0-2) @ Tampa Bay (1-1) (FOX): TW: Buccaneers; CV: Buccaneers

The Giants lost to the Bills and the Buccaneers won against the Panthers last week. Daniel Jones era begins in earnest in New York. Tampa's defense has been doing well so far on the year, I'll take a chance on the Buccaneers. I still don't trust Jameis Winston to guide this team to good things.

Houston (1-1) @ LA Chargers (1-1) (CBS): TW: Chargers; CV: Texans

The Texans beat the Jaguars and the Chargers lost to the Lions last week. Houston's offense hasn't been spectacular so far on the year and the Chargers have a top-10 pass defense so I would expect the Chargers to send some defenders to DeShaun Watson via blitzing. The Chargers had a fluke loss last week and I feel they have a good chance to win this game but it'll be close.

New Orleans (1-1) @ Seattle (2-0) (CBS): TW: Seahawks; CV: Seahawks

The Saints lost to the Rams and the Seahawks beat the Steelers last week. Had Drew Brees not gotten injured last week, this game could be a good one but Teddy Bridgewater is starting in place of Brees. Sadly this is the marquee game of the week and unless Teddy Bridgewater plays like Drew Brees, I feel the Seahawks will win by 10 or more.

Pittsburgh (0-2) @ San Francisco (2-0) (CBS): TW: 49ers; CV: 49ers

The Steelers lost to the Seahawks and the 49ers beat the Bengals last week. Mason Rudolph will make his first start and he is up for a huge test against an improved 49ers defense that is ranked 9th in total defense. If Ben Roethlisberger was in the game the game could be more evenly matched but I can't trust Rudolph enough to give Pittsburgh its first win of the season.

LA Rams (2-0) @ Cleveland (1-1) (NBC): TW: Rams; CV: Rams

Both teams got wins last week as the Rams beat the Saints and the Browns beat the Jets. Cleveland got back into winning form last week against a below average Jets team, The Rams however, have been doing well so far in the season. The pressure is on Baker Mayfield and the Browns offense to beat a pretty good Rams defense. The game will be close but I feel in big game matchups, I feel the Rams will have an edge.

Chicago (1-1) @ Washington (0-2) (ESPN): TW: Bears; CV: Bears

The Bears won against the Broncos and the Redskins lost to the Cowboys last week. The week finishes off with an okay matchup on Monday Night Football. If there was a week where Mitch Trubisky finally gets off on the right foot, it would be this game. Washington's total offense is ranked 30th so far this season. They have a tough division and they need to get all the wins they can get.

NFL 2018 Super Bowl LIII Post

Hello readers! The game that decides it all comes in a few days. The conference championships are done, the Pro Bowl is done, and the game of all games will be here before you know it! In the post I'll briefly talk about the conference championship games, how the two teams in the Super Bowl got there, some tidbits about the game itself, my record in the big game, as well as my pick to who wins it all. Let's get started!

Conference Championships

In the NFC Championship game, it pitted two great offenses in the Los Angeles Rams and the New Orleans Saints. The Rams would win the game in overtime 26-23 though there was controversy in the game. There was a pass interference penalty that was not called against the Rams and sadly it was a good game nonetheless. The Rams return to the Super Bowl for the first time since they were in Super Bowl XXXVI as the St. Louis Rams.

The AFC Championship game would be much of the same story. Two great offenses with two quarterbacks helming the ship. One is considered to be "The GOAT" and the other an up and comer who could take over when the great one retires. The Patriots and Chiefs duked it out for over 4 quarters and beyond but the Patriots would win the game 37-31 on a 2-yard Rex Burkhead rushing touchdown to seal the deal. It's the Patriots 3rd straight trip to the big game.

New England Patriots

Some had suspected that the Patriots would slow down a bit in 2018 and they certainly did during that time. The Pats would post an 11-5 record throughout the regular season, good enough for a 2nd seed in the playoffs. In the divisional round, the Patriots faced off against the Los Angeles Chargers. They won the game 41-28 based on Tom Brady's magnificent arm. In the AFC Championship game, they took on the #1 seed Kansas City Chiefs for the rights to go to the big dance. The Patriots would take it to overtime to win but they would get the result in their favor, with the score of 37-31. The Patriots are playing in their 11th Super Bowl in franchise history. They have played in Super Bowls XX, XXXI, XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLII, XLVI, XLIX, LI, and LII. They will represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams looked to build off what they had started in 2017. They already had their best season in over 10 years, dating back to their days in St. Louis (sorry had to mention it). In 2016, the Rams returned to Los Angeles after being gone from the city since 1994. In 1995, the Rams moved out of Los Angeles, their home since 1946, to St. Louis where they stayed for 20 seasons. Back to 2018. The Rams posted a 12-4 record, qualifying them to get the 2nd seed in the playoffs. In the Divisional round, the Rams took on the Dallas Cowboys. The Rams would win the game 30-22 on the power running tandem of CJ Anderson and Todd Gurley. The Rams would take on the Saints in the NFC Championship game. The Rams and Saints would take it to overtime to win it but they won the game 26-23 on a 57-yard field goal from Greg Zuerlein. They would be playing in their 4th Super Bowl in franchise history. They played in Super Bowl XIV as the Los Angeles Rams and Super Bowl XXXIV and XXXVI as the St. Louis Rams. They will represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl LIII Tidbits

Super Bowl LIII will be held in Atlanta, Georgia. It would be the 3rd time that the city would host the big game as they hosted Super Bowls XXVIII and XXXIV. The two games were played in the old GeorgiaDome and Super Bowl LIII will be played in Mercedez-Benz Stadium. The stadium opened its doors in 2017 and is home to the Atlanta Falcons.

The Super Bowl Halftime show will be headlined by the American pop-act, Maroon 5. They will be with hip-hop stars, Travis Scott and Big Boi. This is the first time that Maroon 5 will headline the big game.

The cost to put an ad in the Super Bowl will cost you a hefty penny. A 30-second spot in the game would cost you roughly around $5 million. Anheuser-Busch will have the most spots during the game with eight. Certainly money that I don't have lying around.

Television

The network that gets to air the big game will be CBS. This will be the 20th Super Bowl that the network has called. They have called Super Bowls: I (with NBC), II, IV, VI, VII, X, XII, XIV, XVI, XVIII, XXI, XXIV, XXVI, XXXV, XXXVIII, XLI, XLIV, XLVII, and Super Bowl 50.

Doing the play-by-play will be Jim Nantz, who is calling his 5th Super Bowl with CBS. He has called Super Bowl's XLI, XLIV, XLVII, and Super Bowl 50. Prior to him, such names like Greg Gumbel and Pat Summerall had called Super Bowls for CBS during its run with the NFL.

Doing the color commentary will be Tony Romo. The former Cowboys quarterback will be calling his 1st Super Bowl with CBS. He had never played in a Super Bowl before so at least you could say he is finally in one as a commentator.

Super Bowl LIII will be the 22rd Super Bowl that I've watched that I can remember. Let alone keep track of my record of who I picked in the big game. Let's just say its not that good. Let's take a look:

Keys To The Game

Patriots:
Keep Tom Brady Upright: The Rams possess a stifling defensive line that can pressure even the best quarterbacks around. That means that the Pats O-line needs to be like a steel wall, giving Tom Brady a chance to do what he does best.
Stuff the Rams running attack: The tandem of Todd Gurley and CJ Anderson is versatile and both can get a ton of yards each. Forcing the Rams to go one-dimensional quickly will keep Jared Goff on edge constantly.
Do Your Job: each member of your team has a role to play. The O-line protecting the quarterback or giving holes to the running backs. The defense communicating well and reacting well to plays.

Rams:
Keep the offense going: you have a great tandem of running backs with CJ Anderson and Todd Gurley. With the passing weapons that Jared Goff has, the Rams look to provide a lot of spark in this game.
Take Risks: The Patriots will fight for every second in this game. Those 4th down situations will be key to deciding the game. Fortunately, Sean McVay is just as much a riverboat gambler as Doug Peterson in last year's Super Bowl. Use trickery.
Attack Tom Brady: The biggest decider in this game will be #12 of the New England Patriots. He is the GOAT for a reason. He always thrived in games like this and will not back down if the team is down by 25. The Giants had success against him because they got to his head and kept him running around as he is not a fast runner. Eventually, the hits start to come to haunt you.

The Pick

The pick is pretty hard to choose. You got a young and upcoming team in the Los Angeles Rams, and you have the New England Patriots. Both teams have great offenses and can do well on defense when given the opportunity. They will need to have their defenses in check for this one. It could be a high scoring affair between the two. As it is in a Dome stadium. Little to no wind will be in there. There can only be one who will win the ultimate prize. I choose...

The New England Patriots.

You will have to remember that Tom Brady put up nearly 500 passing yards last year and the defense was without Malcolm Butler. The Patriots are free of that distraction and can play whatever defense they want without the distraction of whatever took place last year. If Tom Brady wins the game he will get ring #6 and it would be cool to see him possibly ride off into the sunset with the most rings by a quarterback in NFL history. The Patriots are up for a big task against the Los Angeles Rams but if they can wade the storm and hang on they have a great shot to win. Best of luck!

Aftermath

Once the Super Bowl is over the blog will geta bit quieter since there is no football after this game. Let alone no football until August. Nevertheless, if something comes up between that time, I'll post it, football related or otherwise. Until then, enjoy the game, may the best team win.

NFL 2018 Divisional Recap + Conference Championship Picks

Hello readers! Another week of National Football League action has passed us by but another one is fast approaching us. The NFL has finished up its 2nd week of playoff competition in the Divisional round and the next round is the Conference Championship games. The column will cover the Divisional round games plus my picks to who goes to the Super Bowl. Let's get to work!

Divisional Round Recap

Indianapolis 13, Kansas City 31: TW: Colts; CV: Colts
The critics of the Kansas City Chiefs came in with high hopes and left with bitter disappointment. The Chiefs completely dominated the game from the offense, defense, and special teams. It was their first home playoff win in nearly 25 years. Andrew Luck has had some success against the Chiefs in the playoffs. Luck would finish the game with 203 passing yards with a touchdown (the only touchdown all game for the Colts). The Colts running game of Marlon Mack didn't get anything going with only 46 yards rushing, certainly a credit to the Chiefs defense. Patrick Mahomes would pass the ball for 278 yards for zero touchdowns. The Chiefs rushing game gave them all the offense they needed. Damien Williams, Tyreek Hill, Darrell Williams, and Patrick Mahomes would all score a rushing touchdown each. Damien Williams was the leading rusher with 129 yards. Kansas City gets to stay at home for the AFC Championship Game.

Dallas 22, LA Rams 30: TW: Rams; CV: Rams
There was some doubt that the Rams would win the game. I was certainly one of them. With how well the Cowboys handled themselves on defense as well as their rushing attack. It would be the Rams that would hang on to win them the game. Dak Prescott threw the ball for 266 yards for a touchdown. Prescott would run for a touchdown as well. Ezekiel Elliot could only muster 47 yards rushing with a touchdown of his own. Credit to the Rams rush defense to keep Elliot at bay. Jared Goff threw the ball for 186 yards with zero touchdowns in the game. It would be the Rams running game that gave them all the offense they needed. CJ Anderson and Todd Gurley would finish the game with 100+ yard games running the ball. CJ Anderson would run it for 123 yards for two touchdowns while Gurley would get 115 and a touchdown as well. The Rams will be on the road for the NFC Championship Game.

TW: 1-1; CV: 1-1

LA Chargers 28, New England 41: TW: Patriots; CV: Patriots
The Patriots continued with their playoff success while Philip Rivers remains winless against Tom Brady. The Chargers quarterback threw the ball for 331 yards while scoring three touchdowns and a pick. The Chargers running game didn't get a lot going as Melvin Gordon could muster 15 yards rushing with a touchdown. Any chance of Tom Brady slowing down remains to be in question. Brady would throw the ball for 343 yards with a touchdown. The biggest offensive contributor was Sony Michel. Michel ran the ball for 129 yards for three touchdowns. Rex Burkhead would get a touchdown as well in the game, running the ball for 12 yards. It was a dominant game but in garbage time the Patriots defense came a bit into question. They will need to play stellar football next week when they head to Kansas City for the AFC Championship Game.

Philadelphia 14, New Orleans 20: TW: Saints; CV: Saints
Around this time last year, Nick Foles was leading the Eagles to what would become their championship run. The similarities were too hard to dismiss to this year. The Saints would end any hope of a repeat for the Eagles. Nick Foles threw the ball for 201 yards for a touchdown and two picks. Those two interceptions were from Marcus Lattimore. Foles would score a rushing touchdown as well. The Eagles running game of Wendell Smallwood could only muster 33 yards, qualifying him to be the Eagles leading rusher. Drew Brees threw the ball for 301 yards with two touchdowns and a pick. Alvin Kamara was the Saints leading rusher with 71 yards. The Saints stay at home for the NFC Championship Game next Sunday.

Conference Championship Picks

LA Rams (14-3) @ New Orleans (14-3) (FOX): TW: Saints; CV: Rams
The Rams got a win against the Cowboys and the Saints beat the Eagles last week in the Divisional round. The game is a rematch of a Week 8 game that the Saints would end up winning 45-35. The game was high scoring, high on offense game. I would expect this one to be much of the same. The biggest advantage that the Saints have is the crowd noise. Communication will be a factor for the Rams. If they can take the crowd out of the game early and keep them out of it, they have a chance to win. The Saints defense will need to get their A+ game on when it comes to rush defense as the Rams had a lot of success running the ball against the Cowboys. The Rams didn't have Aqib Talib during that Week 8 game as well. Could be a factor but I feel with Drew Brees at the helm of the ship, I think they will be the NFC representative in the Super Bowl.

New England (12-5) @ Kansas City (13-4) (CBS): TW: Patriots; CV: Patriots
The Patriots beat the Chargers and the Chiefs beat the Colts in the Divisional round. The two teams are teams that love to throw the ball. Weather will be a factor as the temperature could reach the single digits with some wind. Despite the weather, I feel that there will be points scored in the game, just not in the 40+ range. The keys for the Patriots is to get Rob Gronkowski involved in the offense as well as playing rock-solid defense as Patrick Mahomes will not be intimidated by zone defenses. The key for the Chiefs will keep the same success with their rushing game against the Patriots defense. The Chiefs defense needs to contain Tom Brady and the Patriots running game. Keeping Tom Brady off his rhythm will be a factor in the game. The Patriots don't particularly do well in road playoff games, with the exception of neutral site games like the Super Bowls the Pats were in. Despite all this, I feel the Patriots will still edge out on the Chiefs and give the Patriots their 11th conference title.

NFL 2018 Week 13 Picks

Hello readers! Another week of National Football League action is soon upon us. The league is entering into its 13th week of competition in the 2018 regular season. There is only five more weeks left in the season and there are still division races to be won, wild cards to be gained and teams that won't play past January. In the column I'll talk about the latest playoff picture, a cool video of the week and of course the picks! Let's get to work!

Playoff Picture: Week 13

AFC:

Week 13 Picks:

Week 13 of the National Football League starts in Arlington, Texas and ends in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. No teams are on a bye this week. There are 16 games on the slate. The week will have a Thursday night game, nine early games, four late games, a Sunday night game, and a Monday night game. FOX will have the doubleheader and CBS will have the single, regional game. On to the picks!

New Orleans (10-1) @ Dallas (6-5) (FOX/NFL Network): TW: Saints, CV: Saints
Both teams got a win last week as the Saints beat the Falcons and the Cowboys beat the Redskins. An enticing matchup to be sure, the Saints are going on a 10-game winning streak, the longest streak of the NFL this season. I don't know if the Saints running game can be stopped in the game, I feel this is the key to the game for the Cowboys. If they can cause the Saints to be one dimensional and sustain drives of their own, they got a chance to win. I don't know if Dallas can.

Denver (5-6) @ Cincinnati (5-6) (CBS): TW: Broncos, CV: Broncos
The Broncos got a win against the Steelers and the Bengals lost to the Browns. The Broncos defense pulled up the stops against Pittsburgh last week and I feel they got a chance to do the same for Cincinnati. I feel the Broncos have an advantage on offense as well. Better running attack. When you lose to the Browns, you gotta lose a bit of credibility. I'll take my chances with the Broncos.

Chicago (8-3) @ NY Giants (3-8) (FOX): TW: Bears, CV: Bears
The Bears got a win against the Lions and the Giants lost to the Eagles last week. It's possible to not see Mitchell Trubisky in this game as he is recovering from injury so Chase Daniel might get the start again. The Bears defense could give the Giants a bit of a fit but I think they can get it done against the Giants.

Carolina (6-5) @ Tampa Bay (4-7) (FOX): TW: Panthers, CV: Panthers
The Panthers lost to the Seahawks and the Buccaneers got a win against the 49ers. The game will be a high-scoring, offensive game. The two teams are great on both run and pass offense. I like the Panthers because of their better defense than the Buccaneers (14th in overall defense, to the Bucs 27th).

Cleveland (4-6-1) @ Houston (8-3) (CBS): TW: Texans, CV: Texans
Both teams got a win last week as the Browns beat the Bengals and the Texans beat the Titans. The Browns have been quite a nice story for the NFL when they win, the underdogs of the world win as well. This week, however, not so much. The Texans are riding on an 8-game winning streak, 2nd longest in the NFL this season. Sorry, Cleveland but Houston is a bit better on defense as long as JJ Watt is on the field.

LA Rams (10-1) @ Detroit (4-7) (FOX): TW: Rams, CV: Rams
The Rams were on a bye week and the Lions lost to the Bears on Thanksgiving. The Rams are coming off a bye week and should be refreshed to finish off the season. The defense alone could keep the Lions pinned down enough to give them a win. Rams on offense are rock solid with Todd Gurley and Jared Goff as the quarterback. Could be a trap game though, be careful Los Angeles.

Buffalo (4-7) @ Miami (5-6) (CBS): TW: Dolphins, CV: Dolphins
The Bills got a win against the Jaguars and the Dolphins lost to the Colts last week. The matchup could be a dumpster fire but I like the Dolphins. The quarterback play of the Bills has been lackluster for the better part of the season and the Dolphins have shown some semblance of a quarterback that can lead an offense. Could be a dumpster of a game.

Indianapolis (6-5) @ Jacksonville (3-8) (CBS): TW: Colts, CV: Colts
The Colts got a win against the Dolphins and the Jaguars lost to the Bills. The Jaguars for the better part of the season have let me down. A lot. The last straw was last week. After last week, I'm not going to pick them for the rest of the season. That and I like the Colts on offense, and their defense can keep Blake Bortles at bay. That will be the key.

Baltimore (6-5) @ Atlanta (4-7) (CBS): TW: Ravens, CV: Ravens
The Ravens got a win last week as they beat the Raiders and the Falcons lost to the Saints. The game is a classic defense vs offense game. The Ravens are great on defense, and the Falcons are good on offense. The Ravens have a bit of an edge on the game as they have an offense that can run and pass the ball well. The key will be whether or not the Falcons defense can keep their opponents off the field.

Arizona (2-9) @ Green Bay (4-6-1) (FOX): TW: Packers, CV: Packers
Both teams got a loss last week as the Cardinals lost to the Chargers and the Packers to the Vikings. The Packers need to get a win to even stay in the talk of being in the NFC playoff race. I'm still holding out hope that Mike McCarthy can get it together to get a win before reality sets in. The reality that he might be fired at the end of the season. Go Pack Go!

NY Jets (3-8) @ Tennessee (5-6) (CBS): TW: Titans, CV: Titans
Both teams took losses last week as the Jets lost to the Patriots and the Titans lost to the Texans. The game comes down to if Sam Darnold will regain the starting position or if Josh McCown will stay in as the starter. The Jets nonetheless just might lose this game still as the running game hasn't gotten going for a while. I like the Titans in the game as they have a pretty potent offense that features both the feet and arm of Marcus Mariota. I'll take Tennessee.

Kansas City (9-2) @ Oakland (2-9) (CBS): TW: Chiefs, CV: Chiefs
The Chiefs were on a bye week and the Raiders lost to the Ravens last week. I'll be honest, the Raiders were somewhat a leading candidate in one thing going into this game. A high draft choice. I'll take the Chiefs because of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs defense could cause issues.

San Francisco (2-9) @ Seattle (6-5) (FOX): TW: Seahawks, CV: Seahawks
The 49ers lost to the Buccaneers and the Seahawks beat the Panthers last week. The game could be a close one but its possible that it won't be as well. I like the Seahawks at home as the atmosphere is hopeful for a playoff berth. I don't trust the 49ers offense enough to give them an edge to the Seahawks.

Minnesota (6-4-1) @ New England (8-3) (FOX): TW: Patriots, CV: Patriots
Both teams got a win last week as the Vikings beat the Packers and the Patriots beat the Jets. The game will greatly depend on if the Vikings running game can keep the Patriots defense on the field and keep Tom Brady on the sideline. As it is the formula to beat him and to take risks against the Patriots. Brady is proven to be a winner and just in general trust the Pats in the matchup.

LA Chargers (8-3) @ Pittsburgh (7-3-1) (NBC): TW: Steelers, CV: Chargers
The Chargers beat the Cardinals and the Steelers lost to the Broncos last week. The game is an AFC matchup on NBC, like old school AFC matchup. The Steelers running game was hit into a wall last week but I feel James Conner can get the ball back in the game and have a good day on the ground, the Steelers will need it.

Washington (6-5) @ Philadelphia (5-6) (ESPN): TW: Eagles, CV: Eagles
The Redskins lost to the Cowboys and the Eagles beat the Giants last week. The week finishes off with a classic NFC East matchup. Washington's quarterback problem will be lessened in this game if Colt McCoy can have an improved game than what he did against Dallas last week. I like the Eagles in the game as they still have Carson Wentz and the offense is still good enough to get points.

NFL Week 12 Picks

Hello readers! Another week of National Football League action is upon us. The week that offers us the opportunity to give thanks, go nuts on Black Friday deals and be among family/friends. The column this week will feature all 32 teams on what they can be thankful for this season. There will be also a cool video of the week, playoff picture and of course the picks! Let's get to work.

Be Thankful: What the 32 teams can be thankful for

So this was something that I did last season as a sort of joke on which team can be thankful for this season. As far as confirmation on what each team is actually thankful for, I have no comment. Nonetheless here's the list.

Arizona Cardinals: You have a chance to get a top 5 pick in the draft, other than that your team is shit.

Atlanta Falcons: The 28-3 memes have died down quite a bit. At least until I mentioned it.

Baltimore Ravens: You have two potential starting quarterbacks and a great defense. And still might make the playoffs.

Buffalo Bills: You don't have Nathan Peterman on your team anymore.

Carolina Panthers: Cam Newton

Chicago Bears: Monsters Of The Midway are back and you have a QB that isn't Jay Cutler.

Cincinnati Bengals: You started off well enough to be this far. You still have AJ Green on the team.

Cleveland Browns: You're not the butt of all NFL jokes anymore.

Dallas Cowboys: You still have fans that go wild after beating a team that has a sub-par record. And Ezekiel Elliot

Denver Broncos: You have a team that is good on defense and a mess at quarterback.

Detroit Lions: You might not finish in last place in the division this year.

Green Bay Packers: You still have Aaron Rodgers on the team and that Mike McCarthy might not be there anymore.

Houston Texans: You've won seven straight games.

Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck is having a good season and is upright.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Not a lot to be thankful for, you have potential to do a full rebuild.

Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes, that's about it.

Los Angeles Chargers: The Chargers are doing good so far this season, despite having shit attendance.

Los Angeles Rams: Your team is pretty good, don't need to say much.

Miami Dolphins: You could make the playoffs and Jay Cutler isn't on the team.

New York Giants: You have a star running back in Saquon Barkley, not much else to say. Been playing better than earlier this season.

New York Jets: You're still rebuilding and you can get better at offense.

Oakland Raiders: You're the Browns and at least this guy picked you to be in the Super Bowl before the season started, never gonna let that go.

Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles have a championship instead of being miserable.

Pittsburgh Steelers: James Conner is a better and younger running back than Le'veon Bell

San Francisco 49ers: Nick Mullens is keeping you competitive in games.

Seattle Seahawks: You're in a rebuilding season and you could be in the playoffs.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Fitzmagic.

Tennessee Titans: Marcus Mariota is still at quarterback and you beat the Patriots this season.

Washington Redskins: You could still be in the playoffs.

Week 12 will start in Detroit, Michigan and ends in Houston, Texas. There are two teams on a bye this week, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Rams. After this week, there will be no teams on a bye week. There will be three Thursday games, seven early games, three late games, a Sunday night game, and a Monday night game. CBS will have the doubleheader and FOX will have the single, regional game. To the picks!

Chicago (7-3) @ Detroit (4-6) (CBS): TW: Bears, CV:  Bears
Both teams picked up a win last week as the Bears beat the Vikings and the Lions beat the Panthers. The two teams could make the game interesting as an early Thanksgiving game but I feel the Bears will win off of their defense. I could go with the home team though but I can't trust the Lions enough to give them the upset to beat the Bears.

Washington (6-4) @ Dallas (5-5) (FOX): TW: Cowboys, CV: Cowboys
The Redskins lost to the Texans and the Cowboys beat the Falcons last week. The game will probably be a snooze as the Redskins lost Alex Smith to injury last week and I don't think that the Redskins can rely on their defense in this one to stay close with them. I trust the Cowboys offense in this one. Probably a good game to take a snooze while the tryptophan is coursing through the system.

Atlanta (4-6) @ New Orleans (9-1) (NBC): TW: Saints, CV: Saints
The Falcons lost to the Cowboys and the Saints beat the Eagles last week. While the shoppers are out shopping and breaking the bank, the primetime game features a decent matchup with two offenses with loaded talent. Could be a shootout but I have to go with the Saints as the hot team and they're at home.

Cleveland (3-6-1) @ Cincinnati (5-5) (CBS): TW: Browns, CV: Browns
The Browns were on a bye and the Bengals lost to the Ravens last week. The game is the battle of Ohio. The Browns are coming off a bye and should be well rested (let alone beating the Falcons the week before). Should be a close game but I like the Browns in this one if they can do damage on defense.

Seattle (5-5) @ Carolina (6-4) (FOX): TW: Panthers, CV: Panthers
The Seahawks beat the Packers and the Panthers lost to the Lions last week. The game should be entertaining as both teams have solid offenses and can be good at times on defense. The game could be close. I like the Panthers in the matchup as they can both run and pass the ball well with personnel that can do the job.

San Francisco (2-8) @ Tampa Bay (3-7) (FOX): TW: Buccaneers, CV: Buccaneers
The 49ers were on a bye and the Buccaneers lost to the Giants last week. The game could come down to whoever starts for Tampa in the game. I feel Ryan Fitzpatrick has done enough to earn the starting spot for the game but I don't trust Jameis Winston to give his team the victory. Nonetheless, I don't trust the 49ers enough to keep up with the #1 passing offense in the NFL.

Oakland (2-8) @ Baltimore (5-5) (CBS): TW: Ravens, CV: Ravens
Both teams got a win last week as the Raiders beat the Cardinals and the Ravens beat the Bengals. I don't trust the Raiders enough to give them the pick this week as they're not good on either offense or defense. The Ravens have a better defense and that alone should give them a win this week.

NY Giants (3-7) @ Philadelphia (4-6) (FOX): TW: Eagles, CV: Eagles
The Giants got a win against the Buccaneers and the Eagles lost to the Saints last week. It's a divisional rivalry game, it's a huge game if the Eagles want to get back into playoff contention. Must-win rather. The Giants could very well beat them this week but I can't trust the Giants this week. Should be a lot closer than what Vegas thinks.

New England (7-3) @ NY Jets (3-7) (CBS): TW: Patriots, CV: Patriots
The two teams were on a bye last week. The Patriots are well built than the Jets, on offense they still have Tom Brady and the Jets still have a learner in Sam Darnold. I don't trust the Jets and the Patriots should get back in the winning column after this week.

Jacksonville (3-7) @ Buffalo (3-7) (CBS): TW: Jaguars, CV: Bills
The Jaguars lost to the Steelers and the Bills were on a bye week last week. The game is a rematch of the AFC Wild Card game last year and boy did these two teams fall off the earth. I like the Jaguars in the game as the Bills are just a trainwreck.

Arizona (2-8) @ LA Chargers (7-3) (FOX): TW: Chargers, CV: Chargers
The two teams took a loss last week as the Cardinals lost to the Raiders and the Chargers to the Broncos. The Chargers on offense is better since Phillip Rivers is at quarterback for them and Melvin Gordon can get great runs. The Cardinals can at times look decent but the season has been bad for them. Larry Fitzgerald deserves better.

Miami (5-5) @ Indianapolis (5-5) (CBS): TW: Colts, CV: Colts
The Dolphins were on a bye and the Colts beat the Titans last week. I like the Colts in the game as they have a more solid offense and momentum is on their side. The Colts defense can dominate games when they can but I like the Colts in this one. Miami could make it interesting.

Pittsburgh (7-2-1) @ Denver (4-6) (CBS): TW: Steelers, CV: Steelers
Both teams got a win with the Steelers beat the Jaguars and the Broncos beat the Chargers. The late game that should garner interest is this one. The two teams have solid running games and can do well enough on defense. The Steelers pass offense should dominate the Broncos in the game but it could stay interesting.

Green Bay (4-5-1) @ Minnesota (5-4-1) (NBC): TW: Packers, CV: Vikings
Both teams took losses last week as the Packers lost to the Seahawks and the Vikings to the Bears. I would pick the Vikings in the game but I don't want to give any credit to the opposition. If the Vikings to win the game, I hope it gives reason to question Mike McCarthy and convince ownership to remove him from head coach. It could be Packer victory and I'll be happy with it. It's not like Aaron Rodgers has won in U.S. Bank Stadium ever.

Tennessee (5-5) @ Houston (7-3) (ESPN): TW: Texans, CV: Texans
The Titans lost to the Colts and the Texans beat the Redskins. The week finishes up with a decent matchup on Monday Night Football. The Titans could pull off an upset but I like the Texans still with their running game, their pass offense, and great defense. Could make Marcus Mariota's night a nightmare. Hopefully, the Texans win streak can continue.

NFL 2018 Week 10 Picks

Hello readers! Another week of action in the National Football League is upon us again. The league is entering into its 10th week of competition. The week has some enticing matchups with the Panthers going to Pittsburgh as two of the better offensive attacks in the NFL square off on Thursday and a few division games that can have huge ramifications in playoff races. In this column, I'll talk about the Saints addition of Dez Bryant, the early playoff picture, the week's cool video of the week and the picks for the games.

Bryant In The Big Easy

The last time we saw Dez Bryant in football was wearing the blue star in Dallas. The wideout has been out of football for over 10 months and as of November 7th, 2018, he has a job in New Orleans. Pending a physical of course. Obstructions aside, Bryant's numbers for 2017 are: 69 receptions, 838 yards receiving, for six touchdowns. Not bad numbers.

Overall, its a 1-year deal with the salary not specified. The addition would pit him with the likes of Michael Thomas, Tre'Quan Smith, Alvin Kamara, and Tedd Ginn. Quite a versatile offense that the Saints would get. Assuming Bryant puts up numbers like he did last season, the Saints are going to be very dangerous past January. Overall good move by the Saints, don't want to risk it all with a long-term deal with him.

Some things to keep an eye on is that New England holds the tiebreaker against Kansas City so should the Chiefs falter then New England could be the #1 seed. As well as the Saints holding the tiebreaker against the Rams since they beat them last Sunday. Rams are ahead based on overall record.

The game has two great offenses that can play solid defense. The game will come down to whether or not Cam Newton & company can keep up with the Steelers offense. I feel safe with the home team. Then again I have been wrong before (stupid Raiders for losing last week).

The Cardinals were on a bye and the Chiefs beat the Browns last week. The game is really a lopsided affair with the two teams in different directions. Still if the Cardinals were to upset the Chiefs at home it would be a worthy win. They would have to play mistake-free football on offense and take advantage of turnovers on defense. Hard formula but chances are leaning on the Chiefs to win. I'll play it safe.

Buffalo (2-7) @ NY Jets (3-6) (CBS): TW: Jets, CV: Jets
Both teams took losses last week as the Bills lost to the Bears and the Jets to the Dolphins. Sam Darnold will be out of the starting lineup for the game, thus the Jets will place their hopes on Josh McCown to get them a win. I feel if McCown can stay on target with his receivers and running backs then the Jets can get a win. Bills defense is no slouch either.

Jacksonville (3-5) @ Indianapolis (3-5) (CBS): TW: Jaguars, CV: Colts
Both teams were on a bye last week. The Jaguars have fallen off the roof for the better part of the year and if they want to get back to the postseason, then this game is a must-win for them.  The Colts could get the win as they are better on offense, but the Jaguars defense is still top notch in the league. Just maybe the Jaguars won't let me down.

New England (7-2) @ Tennessee (4-4) (CBS): TW: Patriots, CV: Patriots
Both teams got the win last week as the Patriots beat the Packers and the Titans beat the Cowboys. The Patriots look to stay on a roll as the season continues. The game could very well be a trap game for the Patriots as the Titans defense is ranked 8th overall. If the Titans offense can play like last week, then the Patriots could be in a tough game to win. I trust Belichek & company to win a road game against an underrated team.

New Orleans (7-1) @ Cincinnati (5-3) (FOX): TW: Saints, CV: Saints
The Saints got a win against the Rams and the Bengals were on a bye last week. The game features two good passing offenses, though one can argue that the Saints are the better of the two. I feel it will come down to which defense can stop the most. The Bengals defense is ranked 32nd overall, 32nd in passing defense. Not good odds for a team that looks to keep up in the AFC North.

Washington (5-3) @ Tampa Bay (3-5) (FOX): TW: Buccaneers, CV: Redskins
Both teams took losses last week as the Redskins lost to the Falcons and the Buccaneers to the Panthers. The game is not really that good as the Buccaneers are terrible on run offense and defense and the Redskins pass offense is terrible as well. I'll take the home team but it should be a close game. Kind of a toss-up game.

Atlanta (4-4) @ Cleveland (2-6-1) (FOX): TW: Falcons, CV: Falcons
The Falcons got a win against the Redskins and the Browns lost to the Chiefs last week. The Browns played with quite a bit of heart last week despite firing their head coach within the same week. Could they do the same against a hot Falcons team? I don't have faith in them as the Falcons on offense are well built on both run and pass. If the Browns can play a less-mistake game and come up with a few turnovers without shooting themselves in the foot, they might have a chance. I'll take the hot team in Atlanta.

Detroit (3-5) @ Chicago (5-3) (FOX): TW: Bears, CV: Bears
The Lions lost to the Vikings and the Bears beat the Bills last week. The Lions are floundering while the Bears look to stay on top in the NFC North. The Lions are going to face an uphill battle as the Bears are pretty good on both sides of the ball. For the Bears, it's a crucial stretch as they have three divisional games in 12 days. Look to the Bears to get pressure on their opponents and cause turnovers.

LA Chargers (6-2) @ Oakland (1-7) (FOX): TW: Chargers, CV: Chargers
The Chargers got a win against the Seahawks and the Raiders lost to the 49ers. The rivalry between these two has been burning dim for a few years and this game will matter a bit more as it is a rivalry, divisional game. The chances of the Raiders pulling off a win though are fairly slim as they continue to begin the mother of all rebuilds. The Chargers will need to get a win to stay with the AFC West. Go Bolts!

Miami (5-4) @ Green Bay (3-4-1) (CBS): TW: Packers, CV: Packers
The Dolphins got a win against the Jets and the Packers lost to the Patriots last week. The Packers defense will need to step up in another must-win game to stay with the Bears and Vikings. The Dolphins can get a win if they can take advantage of certain matchups in the Packers secondary and can run the ball well. If they can pressure Aaron Rodgers they can get a win. I'm hoping for a Packer victory as they are my team.

Seattle (4-4) @ LA Rams (8-1) (CBS): TW: Rams, CV: Rams
Both teams took losses last week as the Seahawks lost to the Chargers and the Rams to the Saints. The league is based on how well you can come back from a loss, and all eyes will be fixed on the Rams to see if they can recover from their loss to the Saints. Overall I still like the Rams in the matchup and if they can pressure Russell Wilson and the Seahawks offense then they have a good chance to win. If the Seahawks can look to keep the Rams offense off the field then they got a chance as well. I'll take LA.

Dallas (3-5) @ Philadelphia (4-4) (NBC): TW: Eagles, CV: Cowboys
The Cowboys took a loss last week against the Titans and the Eagles were on a bye. The Eagles will look to take advantage of an NFC East that is ripe for the taking. The Cowboys haven't made the playoffs with a 3-5 record and I can't trust the 'Boys. Carson Wentz and the Eagles offense are refreshed and the defense healed up a bit. The game is in Philadelphia and I trust the Eagles in the game.

NY Giants (1-7) @ San Francisco (2-7) (ESPN): TW: 49ers, CV: 49ers
The Giants were on a bye week and the 49ers beat the Raiders. The week finishes off with two teams that haven't had great seasons and the two teams would need to get a win to stay somewhat respectable. I'm going with the 49ers based on Nick Mullens momentum and that the 49ers defense can be underrated if they can get pressure on Eli Manning. I don't see the Giants getting a win.

NFL 2018 Week 7 Picks

Hello readers! That time of the week is almost upon us again as the National Football League enters into its 7th week of competition. The week offers a few games of offense vs defense, some sleeper games, and an all-NFC matchup on CBS for a late game. In this column, I'll go through the picks as well as my take on the NFL in London.

A Not So Jolly Good Time

In 2007, the NFL decided to have a game outside of North America for the first time. The chosen site was Wembley Stadium, in London. The first game was held on October 28th, 2007 between the New York Giants and the Miami Dolphins. The Giants would win the contest 13-10.

While I do believe it can bring in a new market for the league, in a market that is heavily into Association football (soccer), cricket, and rugby (a rougher version of American football), it's not quite a huge investment to venture into. There has been talking of a team (like the Jacksonville Jaguars) to play quite a number of games in London. The idea might look good on paper but it has its drawbacks. Here's why:

• There's a large time difference between the Eastern Standard/Daylight Time to London's time zone, British Standard Time. A five hour time difference. Depending on the time in the UK to the US, there's a possibility of people not even watching it. 
• There's no guarantee that it will work. There was a thing called NFL Europe in the late 1990's to mid-2000's to help showcase the game. Why not just bring NFL Europe back if you're so desperate in bringing the game to another continent? 
• The travel budget would be through the roof for not just the home team but the road team as well. Body clocks would be messed up. If you're so concerned with player safety, shouldn't your first priority be on the fact that if a player isn't mentally ready to play a game, how is he even ready physically to play it as well?

If you want to spread the game to other areas, do it in North America, it saves money on travel. Granted the NFL does a game in Mexico as a showcase, it would be good to bring it into Canada as well. You already have the Canadian Football League playing a different variation of the game. It's not like the Canadian market is devoid of football. Just seems silly to me. Thankfully I'm not the only one who feels this way. 

Cool video of the week

When it comes to music I like to listen to a variety. Whatever sounds good to me, I like. The strange thing about music is that there is so much of it. So much that you never really hear it often because the radio never plays it, the song is chosen over for its singles, or artists that have more success tend to not put in their underrated work on their "greatest hits" albums. When it comes to these I listen to Spotify's "Sirius XM Deep Tracks" playlist or just search a random artist and listen to their "underrated" albums, often times their early work. 

One such example of one song that I've been binging lately is an instrumental. The song is called "Summer Madness" by Kool & The Gang. The song was included on their 1974 album, Light Of Worlds, while not released as a single. The cool video of the week is an extended version of the song. Quite the song to chill out after a long day. 

Week 7 of the NFL starts in Glendale, Arizona and ends in Atlanta, Georgia. Truly a sea to shining sea (in reverse) sort of week. On the slate is 14 games. There will be a Thursday night game, a Sunday morning game, seven early games, three late games, a Sunday night game, and a Monday night game. The Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, and Oakland Raiders will be on the bye week. FOX will have the single, regional game, while CBS will have the doubleheader. Let's get to work!

Denver (2-4) @ Arizona (1-5) (FOX/NFL Network): TW: Broncos, CV: Broncos
Both teams took losses last week as the Broncos lost to the Rams and the Cardinals to the Vikings. The week starts out with a sleeper. The game will come down to if the Broncos running game will have a good start against a 31st ranked rush defense in the Cardinals. The Cardinals offense needs to get back to basics and use David Johnson a lot with a few pass plays. Cardinals defense needs to step up as well because the Cardinals offense has struggled.

Tennessee (3-3) @ LA Chargers (4-2) (CBS): TW: Chargers, CV: Chargers
The Titans took a loss against the Ravens and the Chargers got a win against the Browns last week. The game will be on at 9:30 am Eastern time, televised nationally (which is somewhat of a nice thing if you're a morning person). The Chargers should get a win based on the fact that they have a proven quarterback in Philip Rivers and a balanced offensive attack with Melvin Gordon III helming the ground game. The Titans got a shellacking against the Ravens last week and I just don't feel haven't recovered from it. I'd be surprised if the Chargers lose this game.

Buffalo (2-4) @ Indianapolis (1-5) (CBS): TW: Colts, CV: Colts
Both teams ended up in the losing column last week as the Bills lost to the Texans and the Colts to the Jets. The two teams aren't that great. The Colts seem to be more built on offense than the Bills are. The Bills defense would have the edge in the game but you can't get much out of your defense if your own offense can't sustain a drive. I like the Colts with their offense.

Carolina (3-2) @ Philadelphia (3-3) (FOX): TW: Eagles, CV: Panthers
The Panthers lost to the Redskins and the Eagles got a win against the Giants last week respectively. The game really looks good on paper. The Eagles seem to be back to form after having a sluggish game against the Vikings a few weeks ago. The game feels like a shootout bound to happen as both offenses are roughly in the middle of the pack (Panthers are 22nd overall on offense, Eagles are 18th). I think the game will come down to whoever makes the most stops and can make the big play. The Eagles have a better defense overall (ranked 12th compared to the Panthers 14th). I'll take the Iggles.

Cleveland (2-3-1) @ Tampa Bay (2-3) (FOX): TW: Browns, CV: Buccaneers
The two teams took losses last week as the Browns lost to the Chargers and the Buccaneers lost to the Falcons. I know what you're thinking, why the Browns? Are you crazy! Yes and no. Yes, I am crazy, I have a bit of a lead overall on Cardinal Viking. I'm willing to take a risk. No, in that if the Browns take advantage of Buccaneers turnovers which Jameis Winston has a tendency to throw interceptions in games (already has 4 interceptions on the season), they can make life rough on Tampa. The Browns have a solid defense (okay 28th overall in defense). Maybe I am crazy.

Detroit (2-3) @ Miami (4-2) (FOX): TW: Lions, CV: Lions
The Lions were on a bye and the Dolphins got a huge win against the Bears last week respectively. The Dolphins got a boost on offense with Brock Osweiler at quarterback last week and they could very well continue that trend with the Lions coming to Florida. The Lions are ranked 7th in pass defense on the season so if they can create turnovers and let the Lions offense do their thing then they can come out with a victory. Or the Lions could do Lions things and sleepwalk through the entire game. If Brock Osweiler does careful passes and plays well on defense they can get a win as well.

Houston (3-3) @ Jacksonville (3-3) (CBS): TW: Jaguars, CV: Jaguars
The Texans got a win against the Bills and the Jaguars lost to the Cowboys last week. The two teams are pretty similar in terms of rankings. The game will come down to who can dominate in pass defense as both teams have legit pass defenses, thus causing the opponent to be more one dimensional. The Jaguars have had a rough patch so far this season and I feel they'll get back to winning ways with this game.

Minnesota (3-2-1) @ NY Jets (3-3) (FOX): TW: Vikings, CV: Vikings
Both teams got a win last week as the Vikings beat the Cardinals and the Jets to the Colts. The two teams on offense are very different you have a good rushing offense in the Jets and a passing offense in the Vikings. The Vikings defense has been mediocre to what we've been accustomed to but still solid. The matchup I feel that will be a factor is the Vikings defense versus the Jets offense. Will the Vikings defense shut down Sam Darnold and the Jets? I feel it will be the case.

New England (4-2) @ Chicago (3-2) (CBS): TW: Patriots, CV: Patriots
The Patriots got a win against the Chiefs and the Bears lost to the Dolphins last week. The classic great offense vs great defense. The Bears had an off game against the Dolphins last week but should come back a bit better against the Patriots, since I mean you're playing against the GOAT. The game will come down to whichever team can control the line of scrimmage, which at the end of the day is the biggest factor of any football game. Can the Patriots get off to a good start? Or will the Bears hinder Tom Brady & company? I like the Patriots as they can do trickery against a defense and can play well enough on defense to give Brady enough time to win.

New Orleans (4-1) @ Baltimore (4-2) (FOX): TW: Ravens, CV: Saints
The Saints were on a bye and the Ravens got a win against the Titans last week. The game is another case of offense vs defense. The Saints have a great offense as is their custom, and the Ravens have a great defense. I feel it will be a matchup between the Ravens offense vs the Saints defense. Can the Saints defense stop the Ravens enough to give Drew Brees a chance to do his thing on offense? I like the Ravens as they are good on offense but better on defense (9th on offense and 1st on defense).

Dallas (3-3) @ Washington (3-2) (CBS): TW: Redskins, CV: Cowboys
The two teams got a win last week as the Cowboys beat the Jaguars and the Redskins beat the Panthers. Here is an interesting fact: The last time CBS showed a Cowboys/Redskins game was in Week 17 in 1993, and here's the crazy thing: Jim Nantz was the play-by-play commentator in both that game and this game. Illuminati aside, the game will come down to the matchup of the Cowboys wide receivers vs the Redskins defense. Will the Redskins secondary shut down the Cowboys passing attack and give Alex Smith a shot on offense to have the Cowboys defense on the field the longest. The Redskins have a solid running game and if they play balanced football on offense they should get a win.

LA Rams (6-0) @ San Francisco (1-5) (CBS): TW: Rams, CV: Rams
The Rams got a win against the Broncos and the 49ers lost to the Packers. Another all-NFC matchup on CBS. The Rams just look better on both offense and defense. The Niners had a good showcase against the Packers defense last week but its the Packers defense. I think the Rams will stay undefeated after this game but it will be a close game and it's a divisional rivalry game.

Cincinnati (4-2) @ Kansas City (5-1) (NBC): TW: Chiefs, CV: Chiefs
The two teams took losses last week as the Bengals lost to the Steelers and the Chiefs to the Patriots. The Chiefs offense has been stellar so far this season and they didn't let up against the Patriots. The Bengals on defense are ranked 29th overall, not a good sign against the 5th ranked offense in the Chiefs. I'll take the Chiefs as they have more offensive weapons than the Bengals but it will be a good showcase of offensive football. Which defense can make the most stops will be the key.

NY Giants (1-5) @ Atlanta (2-4) (ESPN): TW: Falcons, CV: Falcons
The Giants lost to the Eagles and the Falcons got a win against the Buccaneers last week. The week wraps up with a decent offensive matchup as both teams have great wide receivers but not quite great quarterbacks. The game will really come down to which defense for both teams will show up. The Giants are ranked 14th in overall defense but have given up 30+ points in the last two games and the Falcons defense are ranked 30th overall. I'll take the Falcons on a whim and a gut feeling.

NFL 2018 Week 6 Picks

Hello readers! Another week of action in the National Football League is upon us once again. The sixth week of competition is sure to bring drama, excitement, and hopefully a win for your team. In this column, I'll talk about the game of American football in the snow, why there should be a cold weather Super Bowl more often, as well as discussing week's picks as well.

THE SNOW!!!!

The reason why I'm even discussing the word "snow" is that winter came early to where I live (Fargo, ND). Very early. This topic just gave me a thought to talk about how there's a love-hate relationship with the white stuff. Just to give you people a note: I like watching the snow, I liked playing in it when I was a kid but I hate driving it. It should only be on earth from November to January, after that mild temperatures. If only it was a perfect world. Most people will share my sympathy for it. Here's a short video that summarizes how I feel. Could be a Cool video of the week.

I feel I've stated this opinion before but I'll say it again. It's silly to me to have a Super Bowl played in a warm/domed city every single year. In Super Bowl XLVIII it was held in New York, a cold weather city, in February. Sure it shouldn't be at a cold weather city every year either. I feel there should be a cold-weather Super Bowl once every ten years. That's all I'm asking. If Roger Goodell is looking at this, hear my plea. Please make this happen. It doesn't even have to be in Green Bay. 

The game of American Football is meant to be played in the elements. Whether it be rain, sleet, or snow, it makes it more fun to watch and to play. If the fans are happy about the weather, there should be no reason for the players to be happy as well. It's a win-win scenario. 

Cool video of the week

The Youtube channel, Urinating Tree, is literally one of the underrated channels on the website. He posts sports video on baseball, hockey, and football. The channel is currently at 177K subscribers and deserves to have more. He literally posted videos on the MLB playoffs, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the previous week of the NFL. Week 6 of the NFL starts in New York, New York and ends in Green Bay, Wisconsin. There will be 15 games on the slate. It features a Thursday night game, nine early games, three late games, a Sunday night game, and a Monday night game. The New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions are on a bye week. CBS will have the doubleheader and FOX will have the single game. Let's get to the picks!

Philadelphia (2-3) @ NY Giants (1-4) (FOX/NFL Network): TW: Giants, CV: Giants
Both teams took losses last week as the Eagles lost to the Vikings and the Giants to the Panthers. The NFC East division is somewhat of a bad division this season. No team seems to want to take a lead in the division. The Eagles took a hit on the running back position with the loss of Jay Ajayi for the season and will be licking their wounds after this game. I'd be surprised if the Eagles win this game. The Giants still proved they still have some vigor on offense and if their defense plays up to par they should get a win on the defending champs.

Arizona (1-4) @ Minnesota (2-2-1) (FOX): TW: Vikings, CV: Cardinals
Both teams got a win last week as the Cardinals beat the 49ers and the Vikings beat the Eagles. A hard week for my roommate, Cardinal Viking. Will he pick the Vikings, or will he pick the Cardinals. His team is the Cardinals but he also cheers for local teams which is the Vikings. I feel the Vikings will win as they seem to be better on paper with the offense and defense than the Cardinals. Guess my roommate will be Cardinal Red for this game.

The Panthers picked up a win against the Giants and the Redskins lost to the Saints last week respectively. The Panthers seem to be a solid team on offense and defense. Though they almost lost to a Giants team that has had a rough season so far. The Redskins defense was awful and the offense was sleepwalking. Give me the Panthers.

Chicago (3-1) @ Miami (3-2) (FOX): TW: Bears, CV: Bears
The Bears were on a bye week and the Dolphins lost to the Bengals last week respectively. The game will be quite warm and the Bears will have a decent test this week in the Dolphins. Khalil Mack has been the difference maker on defense for the Bears and the Bears offense had a great game against the Buccaneers a couple of weeks ago. I'll take the Bears.

Indianapolis (1-4) @ NY Jets (2-3) (CBS): TW: Jets, CV: Jets
The Colts took a loss against the Patriots and the Jets got a win against the Broncos last week respectively. The Colts can either be a great team that can beat a Redskins team on the road to a bad team that lost to the Patriots on the road as well. The Jets are the same thing but they have one more win than the Colts. I feel the Jets will win the game as they do have a better run game than the Colts and if Sam Darnold plays well enough to not throw picks they should get a win.

Pittsburgh (2-2-1) @ Cincinnati (4-1) (CBS): TW: Steelers, CV: Steelers
Both teams got a win last week as the Steelers beat the Falcons and the Bengals beat the Dolphins. Very difficult game to pick, the Bengals are a good team when they have to. They have a great win against the Ravens at home earlier in the season. The Steelers have been the drama bomb of the NFL this season and they got a win last week. I feel the Steelers need to win because they have a bye week next week and Le'Veon Bell is supposed to return to the team for Week 8. They need to win this game because they're in a tough division.

Seattle (2-3) @ Oakland (1-4) (FOX): TW: Seahawks, CV: Raiders
Both teams got a loss last week as the Seahawks lost to the Rams and the Raiders to the Chargers. The game will be in London's Wembley Stadium and will have been a long flight for both teams as it is about 8-9 hours of time difference between London to the West Coast. The Seahawks will get a win because I feel they will have a balance on offense and attempt to play solid defense against a Raiders team that is desperately trying to get a solid win. The Raiders could win as well using the same formula.

Buffalo (2-3) @ Houston (2-3) (CBS): TW: Texans, CV: Texans
Both teams got a win last week as the Bills beat the Titans and the Texans beat the Cowboys. The Texans got a lucky win last week against Dallas. The Bills also got a lucky win. The Bills offense has been awful and their defense has been the difference maker for them but I feel the Texans will win as they do have a better offense with Deshaun Watson and company. I'll take the Texans by a long shot.

LA Chargers (3-2) @ Cleveland (2-2-1) (CBS): TW: Chargers, CV: Browns
Both teams got a win last week as the Chargers beat the Raiders and the Browns beat the Ravens. The Browns have been a bit of a surprise for most experts and they should be at 5-0 right now if it wasn't for their inability to find kickers. The Chargers offense looks really, really good and the defense isn't that bad either. Cleveland has a great defense as well and they could win this game but I feel the better offense will win the day.

Tampa Bay (2-2) @ Atlanta (1-4) (FOX): TW: Buccaneers, CV: Falcons
The Buccaneers had a bye and the Falcons lost to the Steelers last week respectively. The bottom two teams in the NFC South will do battle. The Buccaneers were a surprise team with Ryan Fitzpatrick at the helm of the hype train. I'll ride the Buccaneers bandwagon for this game as I feel they still are a better offense and the Falcons have some question marks with Devonte Williams with a knee injury. Could be a close game.

LA Rams (5-0) @ Denver (2-3) (FOX): TW: Rams, CV: Rams
The Rams got a win against the Seahawks and the Broncos lost to the Jets last week respectively. The Rams have been the better team for the past five weeks of the regular season. Denver has been a bit spotty in that regard. The Rams could possibly play a sleepwalker as the higher altitude of Denver could play a factor in the game but I'll take the Rams as a safe bet.

Baltimore (3-2) @ Tennessee (3-2) (CBS): TW: Ravens, CV: Titans
Both teams lost last week as the Ravens lost to the Browns and the Titans lost to the Bills. The game should be a Raven victory as the Ravens offense looks good on paper and the defense has been their bread and butter. It'll be a game which passing defense will show up as both teams are Top 5 in passing defense. The Titans could very well possibly win this game in a low scoring affair.

Jacksonville  (3-2) @ Dallas (2-3) (CBS): TW: Jaguars, CV: Jaguars
The two teams lost last week with the Jaguars losing to the Chiefs and the Cowboys to the Texans. The Jaguars have lost two of their last three games since their victory against the Patriots. The Jaguars will need to play a lot better as Blake Bortles threw for four interceptions last week and the defense will need to hold down the fort against the Cowboys running game with Ezekiel Elliot. I'll take the Jaguars because they're still #1 on defense and top 10 in the offense.

Kansas City (5-0) @ New England (3-2) (NBC): TW: Patriots, CV: Chiefs
Both teams got a win last week as the Chiefs beat the Jaguars and the Patriots beat the Colts. The Chiefs could possibly walk away with a loss after this game. This game is been hyped up since really Patrick Mahomes has proven to be quite the offensive star in the league. We will learn a lot about the Chiefs in this game as well as the Patriots for a bit. The Pats at home are a tough bunch and I'll take them in this one. Trap game for the Chiefs.

San Francisco (1-4) @ Green Bay (2-2-1) (ESPN): TW: Packers, CV: Packers
Both teams got losses as the 49ers lost to the Chargers and the Packers to the Lions. The Monday night game pits two teams that have had great expectations to be in the playoffs but haven't quite hit the mark. CJ Beathard will get the start. The Packers should win the game if they run the ball effectively which is one of their hallmarks on offense. Hopefully, Mason Crosby can find the middle of the uprights well enough.
