NFL 2019 Week 17 Picks

Hello readers! The last week of the National Football League's regular season is upon us. There might not be so much playoff drama as past years but keep an eye on seedings in both conferences. It can make a difference for those who will play on the road and those who will play at home. In this post I'll have the latest playoff picture, an NFL 100 spotlight on the 1985 Bears, and my picks for the Week 17 games. Let's get to work!

Playoff Picture: Week 17

The Raiders are still alive but need a lot of help. Help such as: Raiders win + Steelers loss + Titans loss + Colts win. Steelers can get in with a win + Titans loss or tie.

NFL 100: A Spotlight

In 1963, George Halas and the Chicago Bears won their 8th NFL championship. It would be Halas's last championship as the head coach of the Bears. He would retire after the 1968 season and would remain with the team as an executive until his death in 1983. One of his best decisions before he died was hiring his former player, Mike Ditka, as the new head coach in 1982.

The Bears after 1963 were in a steady decline that lasted for 12 years. From 1964 to 1976 they would endure their worst stretch in franchise history, achieving only 4 winning seasons during that stretch. Their fortunes were starting to change when the team drafted Walter Payton. After two playoff appearances and two head coach firings, Walter Payton was in the climax of his career when Mike Ditka was hired.

One of the masterminds in the team's coaching was Buddy Ryan. Ryan had been the defensive coordinator for the Bears since the 1978 season. Within reason, he felt that he was destined to be the next head coach in line after Neill Armstrong's firing after the 1981 season. Perhaps the hiring of Ditka left Ryan with some bitter feelings as the two didn't get along during the three years they were coaches.

Mike Ditka's first year as head coach in 1982 didn't result in success as the team finished with 3-6 in the strike shortened season. Their luck was turning as Mike Singletary was molding the Bears defense into one of the best as the Bears finished with a 8-8 record in 1983.

The Bears reached the playoffs in 1984 with a 10-6 record. They won their first playoff game since the 1963 championship against the defending conference champion Washington Redskins. The victory costed them with a Jim McMahon, the Bears quarterback, with an injury. Without McMahon, the Bears were shutout against the San Francisco 49ers 23-0 in the NFC championship game.

The message for the 1985 Bears was clear. Nearly three seasons and a playoff appearance under Mike Ditka's belt, it felt that the Bears were destined for a championship run. The offense lead by Jim McMahon and Walter Payton was in the best shape. They were overshadowed by the defense lead by Buddy Ryan.

During the first part of the season, the defense would have to rely on the offense to win games as the Bears defense was still trying to find its footing. One of those wins was the "Viking Miracle" as an injured McMahon lead the Bears to a comeback win on the road against the Vikings. After that game the message was clear to the defense "you have to work to make it happen."

The season would feature low scores against the opponents. During a game against the 49ers, Mike Ditka employed William "The Fridgerator" Perry as a fullback. The Bears won easily 26-10 in Candlestick Park. One of the biggest games for the defense was the 44-0 thrashing against the Dallas Cowboys (whom the Bears had not won against since 1971). Mike Ditka was an assistant coach and player with Cowboys head coach Tom Landry. The loss would be the Cowboys worst loss in franchise history.

What made the Bears defense special was Buddy Ryan's conceived defense called the "46 defense" named after strong safety Doug Plank. The idea of the defense was to put eight men in the box, six men on the line of scrimmage. The result was to cause as much pressure and chaos to the offense as much as possible. NFL offenses at that time were more on a play-action style that needed time for the play to develop. You couldn't get enough time when there were six defenders heading toward your quarterback. It would be Mike Singletary, Richard Dent, Otis Wilson, Wilber Marshall, William Perry, and Gary Fencik that created such pressure. Offenses had no answer for it. If you blocked or double-teamed one player, it would leave holes for other players to get in.

The Bears would finish 15-1 with their lone loss coming against the Miami Dolphins. It would be Dan Marino that would show the world the 46 defense's Achilles heel. The weakness of the defense was over committing too many people to the line of scrimmage. If you had enough time and some empty spaces off to the sides of the field, you had a chance to beat your team deep. Nevertheless the Bears would trounce the competition in the playoffs.

They would get back-to-back playoff shutouts against the New York Giants and Los Angeles Rams with scores of 21-0 and 24-0 respectively. Their performance in Super Bowl XX was one for the ages. They easily handled the AFC Champion New England Patriots 46-10 (perhaps ironic that they scored 46). The victory would come at a cost.

Prior to the game Buddy Ryan would accept a head coaching position with the Philadelphia Eagles. His players would pay their respects and play a defensive game for the ages. Buddy Ryan wouldn't find the same success as getting to a Super Bowl as Eagles head coach, neither did Mike Ditka after Buddy Ryan left.

The 1985 Bears were truly a one-year wonder team. Prior to the year they couldn't find an offense to get them over the hump. After 1985 they struggled to find an identity on defense when Buddy Ryan left. The Bears would lose to the Washington Redskins 27-13 in the 1986 playoffs. While they might've had one great year with one of the greatest defenses in NFL history, their place in NFL history has to be mentioned in high respect, even from a Packer fan.

Week 17 Picks

All 32 teams will play on Sunday. There will be eight early games, seven late games, and a Sunday night game. Both FOX and CBS will have double-headers while NBC will have the Sunday night game. Here are the picks:

Green Bay (12-3) @ Detroit (3-11-1) (FOX): TW: Packers; CV: Lions

The Packers beat the Vikings and the Lions lost to the Broncos last week. At one point the Lions were 2-1-1 going into a game against the Packers. After that game, the Lions went 1-10 the rest of the way. With the possibility of playing for the #1 seed in the playoffs, I feel the Packers will be focused on trying to get a win and take care of business on their end. I can't trust David Blough to suddenly become Matthew Stafford reborn and absolutely torch the Packers defense that surrendered only 10 points last week to the Vikings. I'll place my hope on the Pack.

Cleveland (6-9) @ Cincinatti (1-14) (FOX): TW: Browns; CV: Browns

Both teams lost last week as the Browns lost to the Ravens and the Bengals lost to the Dolphins. Disappointing would be an understatement for the Cleveland Browns season. They can salvage it with a win which would put them at 7-9. It certainly could be Freddie Kitchen's last game as head coach. In general I feel the Browns have more talent on both sides of the ball and the Bengals defense is not that great to begin with. I'll take the Brownies.

Chicago (7-8) @ Minnesota (10-5) (FOX): TW: Vikings; CV: Bears

Both teams lost last week as the Bears lost to the Chiefs and the Vikings lost to the Packers. Minnesota's placement in the playoffs won't likely change win or lose. If Dalvin Cook doesn't play in this game it could be very difficult for the Vikes to get anything from the ground game, as evident from their performance against Green Bay. I'll take the Vikings based off of their quarterback play and defensive performance. This can't possibly be like their previous meeting in Week 4.

LA Chargers (5-10) @ Kansas City (11-4) (CBS): TW: Chiefs; CV: Chiefs

The Chargers lost to the Raiders and the Chiefs beat the Bears last week. Kansas City has a unique opportunity to get a first round bye with the possiblilty with a Patriots loss (assuming the Chiefs win). Philip Rivers has been a turnover machine this season and will likely continue into the last game of the season. I'm going with the Chiefs based on that if Patrick Mahomes does get rest in the game, Matt Moore could get some playing time and he has done well in Mahomes' stead when he was injured. Its also a safe bet.

Miami (4-11) @ New England (12-3) (CBS): TW: Patriots; CV: Patriots

Both teams had wins last week as the Dolphins beat the Bengals and the Patriots beat the Bills. It could be over by halftime to be honest. Tom Brady would have to have a terrible game for the Dolphins to have a shot to win. I don't really see it happening as they have a capable running game to match.

NY Jets (6-9) @ Buffalo (10-5) (CBS): TW: Bills; CV: Jets

The Jets beat the Steelers and the Bills lost to the Patriots last week. It's a meaningless game for the Bills as they could lose and it won't affect their playoff positioning. Could Sam Darnold cause a bit of a shakeup in the Bills momentum going into the playoffs? It's possible but the Bills defense is pretty good and in the match-up with the Jets, I tend to lean towards Buffalo. Just a hunch.

New Orleans (12-3) @ Carolina (5-10) (FOX): TW: Saints; CV: Saints

The Saints beat the Titans and the Panthers lost to the Colts last week. As for resting the Saints starters, the answer is no. With an opportunity to get homefield-advantage in the playoffs is a must to get a win and hope for the best. Carolina could make it an interesting game but their quarterback situation is somewhat of a mess and their defense is suspect. I'll take Naw'lins.

Atlanta (6-9) @ Tampa Bay (7-8) (FOX): TW: Falcons; CV: Buccaneers

The Falcons beat the Jaguars and the Buccaneers lost to the Texans. Tampa missed an opportunity to get at least a guaranteed .500 season last week against the Texans. Atlanta is 5-2 since going 1-7 to start the season. The news of Dan Quinn returning could either mean good news or bad news for Falcons fans. Jameis Winston will throw touchdowns but its almost a guarantee that he will throw more, let alone equal, number of interceptions. I'll go on a whim and take Atlanta.

Washington (3-12) @ Dallas (7-8) (FOX): TW: Cowboys; CV: Cowboys

The Redskins lost to the Giants and the Cowboys lost to the Eagles last week. Dallas has underachieved this season and the worst thing they could do is lose at home in the season finale when they had potential to get a win and a possible playoff spot. I'll take Dallas because they will play angry and just crush the Redskins.

Indianapolis (7-8) @ Jacksonville (5-10) (CBS): TW: Colts; CV: Colts

The Colts beat the Panthers and the Jaguars lost to the Falcons last week. Indianapolis has had a good season without Andrew Luck at quarterback. Jacksonville has potential to build around Gardner Minshew. I want to take Jacksonville in the game but I feel the Colts will win based on their better talent on offense. Best of luck, Doug Marrone.

Arizona (5-9-1) @ LA Rams (8-7) (FOX): TW: Rams; CV: Cardinals

The Cardinals beat the Seahawks and the Rams lost to the 49ers last week. It'll be the last game at the Los Angeles Coliseum as the Rams will move into a new stadium next season. The Rams have had a disappointing season after making it to the Super Bowl last year. They can get some pride back with a win against the hapless Cardinals. I'm leaning towards the Rams as they have better talent on both sides of the ball. Hard to say if Larry Fitzgerald will come back for another season.

Oakland (7-8) @ Denver (6-9) (CBS): TW: Broncos; CV: Raiders

The Raiders beat the Chargers and the Broncos beat the Lions last week. The last game where the Raiders franchise will use the "Oakland" moniker (unless the football gods give them the luck of lucks). Josh Jacobs is listed as doubtful in playing in the game. As much as I want to believe that DeAndre Washington is a capable running back, I like the Broncos with their better run game and decent defense.

Philadelphia (8-7) @ NY Giants (4-11) (FOX): TW: Eagles; CV: Eagles

Both teams won last week as the Eagles beat the Cowboys and the Giants beat the Redskins. While the Cowboys are playing for their playoff lives, the Eagles will try to hold off the Giants. All the Eagles have to do is win and they will be in. New York could make it an interesting game as the spoiler but the leadership and confidence of Carson Wentz is hard to beat. I'll take the Iggles.

Tennessee (8-7) @ Houston (10-5) (CBS): TW: Titans; CV: Texans

The Titans lost to the Saints and the Texans beat the Buccaneers last week. Ryan Tannehill and company have an opportunity to get into the playoffs during a season where it seemed that Marcus Mariota was leading them down to a possible losing season. If they lose they can still get in with a Steelers loss. I'll take the Titans on a whim with Derrick Henry playing well.

Pittsburgh (8-7) @ Baltimore (13-2) (CBS): TW: Ravens; CV: Ravens

The Steelers lost to the Jets and the Ravens beat the Browns last week. It's possible for Pittsburgh to get a win but they need some help, such as a Titans loss, in order to get into the playoffs. Baltimore will likely be resting their players such as Lamar Jackson so it will mean Robert Griffin III will get a start. I like RGIII in the match-up against either Devlin Hodges or Mason Rudolph. It seems stacked against the Steelers which doesn't bode well for them, I'll take B-More.

San Francisco (12-3) @ Seattle (11-4) (NBC): TW: 49ers; CV: Seahawks

The 49ers beat the Rams and the Seahawks lost to the Cardinals. Seattle missed an opportunity to be in a better position with that loss to the Cardinals last week. They played poor against them which doesn't bode well for them against a 49ers team that looks to capture the #1 seed in the NFC. I'm taking the 49ers as they want it more than Seattle in my opinion. It'll be a shootout but I feel the 49ers defense will hold off the Seahawks onslaught.

NFL 2019 Week 14 Recap

Hello readers! Another week of National Football League action has gone by. The week that was last week in picks was good for me as I finished Week 13 with a 10-6 record. We shall see if I can continue to keep that good week going. In this post, I'll talk about the 2010's Patriots in the NFL 100 Spotlight and the recap of the games. Let's get to work!

NFL 100: A Spotlight

The 2010's started off for the New England Patriots with a Wild Card loss to the Baltimore Ravens. It was Tom Brady's first full season after injuring his ACL in the 2008 season opener. There had been doubts that the Patriots could return to their championship form that they had found in the early 2000's.

The 2010 Patriots would see them have their best season since 2007 as they finished with a 14-2 record. They had the best scoring offense in the league with 518 points scored. In one of their biggest playoff losses, the Patriots lost to their rival New York Jets at home 28-21 in the divisional round.

The 2011 team finished with a 13-3 record while scoring 513 points in offense. The problem that would doom the team would be their 15th ranked scoring defense. The team would make a great playoff run as they beat the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens en route to their first Super Bowl appearance since XLII. Their opponent would be an all to familiar one. Ultimately, the Patriots would lose to the New York Giants in a tightly contested game with a 21-17 score.

In 2012, the team would win one less game than the year before with a 12-4 record. They would make the playoffs with a win against the Houston Texans in the divisional round. The Baltimore Ravens would get their revenge from the year before and beat the Patriots 28-13, where the Ravens would ultimately win Super Bowl XLVII.

It would be the same story for the 2013 team that finished with a 12-4 record. They would get a divisonal round win against the Indianapolis Colts before losing to Peyton Manning's Denver Broncos in the AFC championship game. Not winning championships were dulling the Patriots luster, they needed to win in 2014 or be considered to be a team that ran its course.

The 2014 Patriots questioned themselves on if they could get a championship. After a 41-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football, experts stated the team was "finished." After the loss they would finish the season with a 10-2 record after the loss. The team would answer back against the Ravens and get a win in the divisional round while blowing out the Colts 45-7 in the AFC championship game. There was certainly controversy with Deflategate but the Patriots were back in the big game. In the previous two appearances the team had put the team on Brady's back but in Super Bowl XLIX, a Butler would save the day and get the team that elusive 4th championship. It had been 10 years since their previous championship win.

The next year, the Patriots got a 12-4 record. The team would get a playoff win against the Kansas City Chiefs but would lose to the Denver Broncos on the road in a tight 20-18 game. As of the 2018 season, this was the last time the Patriots lost in a AFC championship game. It was also the final Brady-Manning game.

The 2016 Patriots season was more of a revenge tour than a marathon. Tom Brady was suspended for four games due to his involvement in Deflategate. Backup quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett played in the quarterback's stead leading the team to a 3-1 record in Brady's absence. Brady would go out and play lights out and lead his team to a 14-2 record. The playoffs were barnstormers as the Patriots won against the Houston Texans and the Pittsburgh Steelers enroute to Super Bowl LI. It would be tough sledding against the Atlanta Falcons as the Patriots were down 28-3 with 8:31 left in the 3rd quarter. The Patriots would score 31 unanswered points to beat Atlanta in the first overtime game in the Super Bowl. It was the franchise's 5th championship.

The 2017 Patriots continued where they started. They finished with a 13-3 record and would beat the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars en route to another Super Bowl appearance. The Patriots would lose to the Philadelphia Eagles in a 41-33 offensive battle. Many questions surfaced as Malcolm Butler didn't play in the game due to a coach's decision.

The 2018 Patriots struggled. The team finished with a 11-5 record, their worst record in quite a long time since they had gone 10-6 in the 2009 season. They would lose two of their remaining four games. The team would still make the playoffs nonetheless and would get wins against the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs to get to their 3rd consecutive Super Bowl. The game was in direct contrast to the year before as the Patriots would ultimately win the game 13-3 in a defensive effort for the ages. The win would get the team to their 6th championship in 18 years in the Brady-Belichek era.

The 2019 team is yet to be determined if they can get another Super Bowl win. It's hard to say whether or not they'll get that 4th championship this decade. Win or lose, the 2010's have been sealed for the Patriots as being the team of the decade.

Week 14 Recap

Dallas 24, Chicago 31: TW: Cowboys; CV: Cowboys

The 'Boys lost again. Dak Prescott had a good game with 334 yards with a touchdown pass. Ezekiel Elliot would run the ball for 81 yards with two touchdowns, so certainly a better game for the running back. It was another great start for Mitchell Trubisky as he threw the ball for 244 yards with three touchdowns but also threw an interception in the game. Trubisky would get 63 yards rushing with a touchdown as well but Devin Montgomery was the leading rusher with 86 yards. Fortunately the NFC East is terrible and the Cowboys are currently in the driver's seat in that division.

All-time series: Cowboys lead 15-12

Next week: Dallas: vs LA Rams; Chicago: @ Green Bay

TW: 0-1; CV: 0-1

Detroit 7, Minnesota 20: TW: Vikings; CV: Vikings

Minnesota's defense really shut down the Lions in this game. David Blough started for Detroit and would only throw for 205 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Bo Scarborough would get 63 yards rushing while not scoring a rushing touchdown. Kirk Cousins had another solid start as he threw for 242 yards with a touchdown. The Vikings running game had a touchdown from Dalvin Cook while running the ball for 62 yards. Danielle Hunter would get three of the five sacks from the vaunted Vikings defense.

All-time series: Vikings lead 76-39-2

Next week: Detroit: vs Tampa Bay; Minnesota: @ LA Chargers

TW: 1-1; CV: 1-1

Denver 38, Houston 24: TW: Texans; CV: Texans

Same old song and dance for the Texans. I pick them, they lose, I pick against them, they win. Drew Lock had one of his best starts of the season as he threw for 309 yards with three touchdowns but would throw an interception in the game. Philip Lindsay would run the ball for 51 yards with a touchdown run. Kareem Jackson would get an interception and get a fumble-six during the game as well. DeShaun Watson threw the ball for 292 yards with a touchdown with a couple of interceptions in the game. Watson would run the ball for 44 yards with two touchdowns. Carlos Hyde was the leading rusher in the game with 72 yards from the ground.

All-time series: Broncos lead 5-3

Next week: Denver: @ Kansas City; Houston: @ Tennessee

TW: 1-2; CV: 1-2

Indianapolis 35, Tampa Bay 38: TW: Buccaneers; CV: Colts

It's really another "What if Jameis Winston threw lesser interceptions?" game. Jacoby Brissett threw for 251 yards with two touchdowns. Marlon Mack would return after being out due to injury. Mack would run the ball for 38 yards with a touchdown. Jameis Winston threw the ball for 456 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions. The Bucs running game didn't have a 100-yard day but Ronald Jones was the leading rusher for them with 36 yards. I mean I guess if the Bucs keep winning games you can throw interceptions left and right.

All-time series: Colts lead 8-6

Next week: Indianapolis: @ New Orleans; Tampa Bay: @ Detroit

TW: 2-2; CV: 1-3

San Francisco 48, New Orleans 46: TW: Saints; CV: 49ers

Both teams would score for a combined 10 passing touchdowns. Jimmy Garoppolo would throw the ball for 349 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. Emmanuel Sanders would get a passing touchdown on a 35-yard play in the game. Raheem Mostert ran the ball for 69 yards with a touchdown. Drew Brees threw the ball for 359 yards with five touchdowns in the game. Not a bad game for him if you own him on fantasy. Latavius Murray was the leading rusher for the Saints with 69 yards. Not a bad game for a potential NFC championship game preview.

All-time series: 49ers lead 49-26-2

Next week: San Francisco: vs Atlanta; New Orleans: vs Indianapolis

TW: 2-3; CV: 2-3

Washington 15, Green Bay 20: TW: Packers; CV: Packers

Aaron Jones had a season-high 134 yards in this game. Dwayne Haskins started for Washington and threw for 170 yards with a touchdown while throwing an interception. Adrian Peterson was back in good form with 76 yards from the ground with a touchdown. Aaron Rodgers threw for 195 yards with a touchdown. As stated before it was more of the great running game from Aaron Jones that got Green Bay the win as the Packers would score 14 points in the first quarter. It should raise some concern but a win is a win.

All-time series: Packers lead 21-16-1

Next week: Washington: vs Philadelphia; Green Bay: vs Chicago

TW: 3-3; CV: 3-3

Cincinnati 19, Cleveland 27: TW: Browns; CV: Browns

It was a valiant effort for Cincy but it wasn't enough. Andy Dalton threw for 262 yards while throwing an interception. Joe Mixon would score the only touchdown for the Bengals while running the ball for 146 yards. Baker Mayfield would throw the ball for 192 yards with two interceptions. Baker Mayfield and Kareem Hunt would get rushing touchdowns while compiling 13 and 28 yards rushing. Nick Chubb would be the Browns leading rusher with 106 yards.

All-time series: Bengals lead 50-42

Next week: Cincinatti: vs New England; Cleveland: @ Arizona

Miami 21, NY Jets 22: TW: Jets; CV: Jets

A different Sam would help the Jets to victory. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw the ball for 245 yards while throwing an interception. Fitzpatrick would be the leading rusher for Miami with 65 yards. Sam Darnold threw for 270 yards with two touchdowns while throwing an interception in the game. Bilal Powell was the leading rusher in the game with 74 yards. Sam Ficken would hit a 44-yard field goal to give them the win. Only three more games and your season is over Dolphins fans.

No real answers for Carolina. I don't know what to say. Kyle Allen threw for 293 yards with a touchdown but threw for two interceptions. Allen would run it in for a score while getting 24 yards. Christian McCaffrey ran the ball for 53 yards while getting 82 yards receiving. Matt Ryan threw the ball for 313 yards with two touchdowns. Ryan would become the 10th quarterback with 50,000 career passing yards. Devonta Freeman and Brian Hill would get rushing touchdowns compiling 84 and 62 yards respectively. Start out awful and then play well late in the season, typical Falcons.

They didn't get the division but they're in the dance. Lamar Jackson didn't put up quite the large stats in the last few weeks but he did put up 145 yards passing with three touchdowns while throwing a pick. Jackson also ran for 40 yards. Mark Ingram would get 50 yards from the ground. Josh Allen had similar yards passing with 146 yards but could only muster one passing touchdown. Devin Singletary racked up 89 yards from the ground.

LA Chargers 45, Jacksonville 10: TW: Jaguars; CV: Chargers

Well I guess Philip Rivers figured it out. Rivers would finish the game with 314 yards passing with three touchdowns while throwing an interception. Veteran Tyrod Taylor would get in the action with 26 yards passing with a touchdown of his own. Austin Ekeler was the leading rusher in the game with 101 yards but Melvin Gordon and Derek Watt would get touchdowns while getting 55 and 4 yards respectively. Gardner Minshew started for the Jaguars and didn't do a lot on offense with 162 yards passing with a touchdown. Leonard Fournette couldn't get much on the ground as he mustered 50 yards.

Kansas City 23, New England 16: TW: Patriots; CV: Patriots

The game wasn't the best officiated game but nonetheless, the Patriots didn't make enough plays to win. Patrick Mahomes threw the ball for 283 yards with a touchdown with an interception. LeSean McCoy was the leading rusher in the game with 39 yards. Tom Brady threw the ball for 169 yards with a touchdown with an interception. The Patriots running game was quiet as James White could only put up 33 yards from six carries. New England still in the driver's seat for the #2 seed in the playoffs though.

Pittsburgh 23, Arizona 17: TW: Steelers; CV: Steelers

The Cardinals certainly kept it interesting for the most part. Devlin Hodges threw the ball for 152 yards with a touchdown while throwing no interceptions. Kerrith Whyte and Benny Snell would get 41 yards together. Kyler Murray threw the ball for 194 yards with two touchdowns but would get troubled from the Steelers defense with three interceptions. The running game of Kenyan Drake would only get 37 yards on the ground.

All-time series: Steelers lead 35-23-3

Tennessee 42, Oakland 21: TW: Raiders; CV: Raiders

The game might've been competitive in the first half but without Josh Jacobs, due to an injury, the Raiders couldn't quite get anything going to take a lead. Ryan Tannehill threw the ball for 391 yards with three touchdowns while throwing a pick in the game. Derrick Henry had a good day with 103 yards rushing while going into the endzone for two times. Derek Carr played better with his 263 yards with two passing touchdowns. Deandre Washington would get the start for Oakland with Jacobs out. Washington would put up 53 yards with a touchdown. The Raiders defense is just... blegh.

Seattle 12, LA Rams 28: TW: Rams; CV: Seahawks

The Rams gave the 49ers a chance to stay in the division race. Russell Wilson threw the ball for 245 yards but wouldn't yards but wouldn't get a touchdown pass in the game. He would also throw an interception in the game while getting 28 yards on the ground. Chris Carson did fine with the ground game with 76 yards but wouldn't score a touchdown. Quandre Diggs would get the only touchdown for Seattle on a pick-six. Jared Goff would get 293 yards passing with two touchdowns while two interceptions. Todd Gurley had a good game with 79 yards rushing with a touchdown. Malcolm Brown would get a rushing touchdown as well with 21 yards.

All-time series: Seahawks lead 24-20

NY Giants 17, Philadelphia 23 (F/OT): TW: Eagles; CV: Eagles

The game was fairly interesting. In what might've been Eli Manning's last game, the quarterback finished the game with 203 yards passing with two touchdown passes. Saquon Barkley would muster 66 yards from the ground. Carson Wentz had a similar game but more passing yards with 325 yards and had two touchdowns. Boston Scott got 59 yards rushing with a rushing touchdown. The Eagles are still alive but they will still need a lot of help if they want to get that division crown.

NFL 2019 Week 13 Recap

Hello readers! Another week of National Football League action has passed us by. The week that was Week 12 brought me with a 10-4 record in picks. We shall have to see how well I did this week. In this post I'll talk about the 1990's Cowboys as well as a recap of the games. Let's get to work!

NFL 100: A Spotlight

From the late 1960's to the early 1980's the Dallas Cowboys would enjoy immeasurable playoff success, culimating with two Super Bowl wins under head coach Tom Landry. By the late 1980's however, the Boys were in decline as many of the stars were aging and new leadership was needed in Big D. Including new blood in head coach.

On February 28th, 1989, the Dallas Cowboys were bought by business tycoon Jerry Jones. Jones first action of business was to fire long-time head coach Tom Landry and fire general manager Tex Schramm as Jones would assume GM duties. Landry's replacement was Jones' teammate at Arkansas and University of Miami (Florida) head coach Jimmy Johnson.

The 1989 season would finish as the worst in franchise history as the Cowboys finished with a 1-15 record. That was the bad news. The good news was that during the season the Cowboys traded their only pro-bowl player in Herschel Walker to the Minnesota Vikings in one of the most lopsided trades in sports.

The trade would send Walker to the Vikings in exchange of five veteran players as well as a whopping eight draft choices that would lead to the Cowboys drafting Emmitt Smith. Walker would last in Minnesota until the end of the 1991 season.

The Cowboys would rebound from 1989 to finish 1990 with a 7-9 record. In 1991, they finished with a 11-5 record, their first winning season since 1985 and into the playoffs. They would win against the Chicago Bears in the wild-card round before losing to the Detroit Lions in a 38-6 rout in the Divisional playoffs (the Lions first playoff win since 1957). The Cowboys were getting better and the world could only dream how far they could go.

The 1992 Cowboys would have the 2nd best record in the NFC with a 13-3 record. They easily handled the Philadelphia Eagles 34-10 in the divisional round. They would beat the San Francisco 49ers in Candlestick Park with a 30-20 win enroute to their first Super Bowl appearance since Super Bowl XIII. They easily handled the Buffalo Bills in a 52-17 blowout to win their 3rd championship in franchise history.

The 1993 Cowboys would see the same success as the year before except for some controversy. Emmitt Smith wanted a new contract and Jerry Jones wouldn't budge. As a result Smith would holdout. After an 0-2 start, Jones would give in and give Smith a new contract. The Cowboys would finish the season with a 12-2 finish. They would beat the Green Bay Packers 27-17 in the divisional playoffs and win their 2nd consecutive game against the 49ers 38-21. Dallas would win back-to-back Super Bowls as the Cowboys beat the Bills 30-13. It would seem that the Cowboys would stay on top for quite a long time, but it would not be the case. Jimmy Johnson would resign from Cowboys head coach a month after Super Bowl XXVIII.

The Cowboys appointed Barry Switzer, the former Oklahoma head coach, to be on the sidelines for Dallas. Switzer would be a complete opposite from Johnson in terms of control and discipline. He would delegate more control to his coaches and wouldn't lay down the law in the locker room. The Cowboys in 1994 would finish with a 12-4 record and a playoff win against the Packers but wouldn't finish the three-peat as the 49ers would get their revenge over the Cowboys.

In 1995, the season would be full of drama as Barry Switzer's relationship with Cowboys quarterback, Troy Aikman, would be under the microscope. Nevertheless, the Cowboys finished with a 12-4 record and would beat the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers enroute to their 3rd Super Bowl in four years. They would beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-17.

From 1996 to 1999 they would win only one playoff game and finished with a 10-6, 6-10, 10-6, and 8-8 record in those years respectively. Barry Switzer would be let go after the 1997 season. Dallas wouldn't win another playoff game until the 2009 season.

The 1990's Cowboys were one of the biggest "what-if" scenarios in NFL history. What would've happened if Jimmy Johnson stayed on as head coach after the 1993 season? It would be hard to say but one thing is for certain, the Cowboys haven't had the same kind of success since then. Let alone win a Super Bowl since 1995. Granted it helps if you have a lot of draft picks and the personnel to utilize those draft picks and orchestrate the talent. Their place in NFL history is assured.

Week 13 Recap

Chicago 24, Detroit 20: TW: Bears; CV: Bears

The redemption of Mitchell Trubisky! The Mitch finished the game with 338 yards with three touchdowns while throwing an interception. He easily had one of his best games, perhaps he finally is getting some confidence. Devin Montgomery did fine in the ground game with 75 yards rushing. David Blough got his first NFL start in this one, finishing the game with 280 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Bo Scarbourough was the leading rusher in the game with 83 yards. They may be out of the playoffs but that can be a good thing to help build Trubisky up a bit.

All-time series: Bears lead 101-74-3

Next week: Chicago: vs Dallas (Thursday); Detroit: @ Minnesota

TW: 1-0; CV: 1-0

Buffalo 26, Dallas 15: TW: Cowboys; CV: Bills

Typical Cowboys fashion. They play down to their competition. Josh Allen finished the game with 231 yards with a touchdown. John Brown would also throw a touchdown on a 28-yard pass play. Allen would also score a rushing touchdown while running it for 43 yards. Devin Singletary would run the ball for 63 yards. Dak Prescott threw the ball for 355 yards with two touchdowns while throwing an interception. Ezekiel Elliot racked up yards but didn't score a touchdown as he ran for 71 yards. Buffalo should earn some respect after this win for sure.

All-time series: Cowboys lead 8-5

New Orleans 26, Atlanta 18: TW: Saints; CV: Saints

The Saints get their 3rd straight division title. Drew Brees wasn't slinging the ball like he used to but he threw the ball for 184 yards with a touchdown. Alvin Kamara ran the ball for 61 yards but didn't score a touchdown. Taysom Hill would score a rushing touchdown with 33 yards on the ground. Matt Ryan threw the ball for 312 yards with two touchdowns while throwing two picks. Devonta Freeman ran the ball for 51 yards. Hopefully your Thanksgiving was fun with lots of food and good company.

All-time series: Falcons lead 53-49

Next week: New Orleans: vs San Francisco; Atlanta: vs Carolina

TW: 2-1; CV: 3-0

San Francisco 17, Baltimore 20: TW: Ravens; CV: 49ers

While the game wasn't shown in my area, but rest assured, this game was a really stellar one. Jimmy Garoppolo threw the ball for 165 yards with a touchdown. Raheem Mostert had a really good game on the ground with 146 yards with a touchdown. His longest run was for 40 yards. Lamar Jackson scored the touchdowns this game for the Ravens with both his arm and legs. Jackson threw the ball for 101 yards with a touchdown while running the ball for 105 yards with a touchdown. Justin Tucker would hit a 49-yard field goal to win it for the Ravens. If this was a potential Super Bowl preview, this would be a worthy candidate.

All-time series: Ravens lead 5-2

Tampa Bay 28, Jacksonville 11: TW: Buccaneers; CV: Jaguars

HOLY SHIT! JAMEIS WINSTON DIDN'T THROW AN INTERCEPTION! Jameis Winston finished the game with 268 yards but didn't throw a touchdown in the game either. Peyton Barber would provide the offensive touchdowns for the Bucs with two while running the ball for 44 yards. Devin White would score a touchdown on a Nick Foles fumble. Nick Foles was pretty bad in the game as he threw for 93 yards with an interception. He would get benched in favor of Gardner Minshew. Minshew threw the ball for 147 yards with a touchdown but also threw an interception in the game for Jacksonville. Much too late for Jacksonville.

All-time series: Jaguars lead 4-3

Next week: Tampa Bay: vs Indianapolis; Jacksonville: vs LA Chargers

TW: 4-1; 3-2

Tennessee 31, Indianapolis 17: TW: Titans; CV: Colts

The Titans continue to have success with Ryan Tannehill as quarterback. Tannehill didn't have a 300-yard game but did well enough to put up 184 yards passing with two touchdowns. Derrick Henry had a good day on the ground as he racked up 149 yards with a touchdown against the Colts defense. Tye Smith would score a touchdown on an Adam Vinatieri blocked field goal. Jacoby Brissett threw the ball for 319 yards with a touchdown but threw two interceptions in the game. Nyheim Hines ran the ball for 22 yards with a touchdown while Jordan Wilkins ran the ball for 47 yards. If the Titans get in the playoffs, this team can get dangerous with their balance on offense.

All-time series: Colts lead 34-17

Next week: Tennessee: @ Oakland; Indianapolis: @ Tampa Bay

Washington 29, Carolina 21: TW: Panthers; CV: Panthers

When the Redskins defense held Christian McCaffrey to 102 total yards. Dwayne Haskins was more of a field manager in this game as he threw 147 yards with zero touchdowns while not playing smart in throwing no interceptions. Derrius Guice ran the ball for 129 yards with two touchdowns while Adrian Peterson ran for 99 yards with a touchdown. Kyle Allen threw the ball for 278 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. McCaffrey ran the ball for 44 yards while Kyle Allen ran the ball for 22 yards with a touchdown. What's wrong with Carolina?

Philadelphia 31, Miami 37: TW: Eagles; CV: Eagles

This was certainly a surprise. Carson Wentz threw the ball for 310 yards with threw touchdowns and an interception. Miles Sanders ran the ball for 83 yards but wouldn't score a rushing touchdown. Ryan Fitzpatrick had one of his best games of the season in this game as he threw for 365 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Matt Haack, the Dolphins punter, would throw a touchdown to Jason Sanders, the Dolphins kicker, in the game as well. Patrick Laird would run the ball for 4 yards but would score a touchdown but Albert Wilson ran the ball for 31 yards. Philly needs a defense.

NY Jets 6, Cincinnati 22: TW: Jets; CV: Jets

That long shot that I said in the Picks post on Wednesday turned out to be a pretty good shot. Sam Darnold threw the ball for 239 yards but didn't throw a touchdown in the game but didn't get picked off either. Le'Veon Bell could only put up 34 yards on 10 carries. Andy Dalton threw the ball for 243 yards with a touchdown in his return from an injury. Joe Mixon ran the ball for 44 yards with a touchdown. The 2008 Lions and 2017 Browns can sleep easy tonight knowing the Cincinnati Bengals won't go 0-16.

All-time series: Jets lead 17-10

Green Bay 31, NY Giants 13: TW: Packers; CV: Packers

The Packers offense responded with a great game. Aaron Rodgers threw the ball for 243 yards with four touchdowns in the game, certainly better than last week for sure. Jamaal Williams ran the ball for 41 yards with zero touchdowns. Daniel Jones threw the ball for a touchdown and threw three interceptions in the game. Saquon Barkley ran the ball for 83 yards while not scoring a rushing touchdown. Always enjoyed snow games even if it was slushy snow.

All-time series: Packers lead 34-26-2

Cleveland 13, Pittsburgh 20: TW: Steelers; CV: Steelers

Rest in peace my Browns to the playoffs prediction in the preseason. Baker Mayfield threw the ball for 196 yards with a touchdown while throwing an interception (note that it was late in the game). Nick Chubb ran the ball for 58 yards while scoring no touchdowns in the game. Devlin "Duck" Hodges threw the ball for 212 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Benny Snell had another good game with 63 yards with a touchdown. Freddie Kitchens with the "Pittsburgh Started It" t-shirt definitely makes you quite a role model for your players indeed.

All-time series: Steelers lead 76-59-1

LA Rams 34, Arizona 7: TW: Rams; CV: Rams

To rebound from a 45-6 loss to the Ravens last week, this Rams team made quite a bit of strides. Jared Goff threw the ball for 424 yards with two touchdowns. Todd Gurley ran the ball for 95 yards with a touchdown as well. Kyler Murray could only put up 163 yards with an interception and would score the only touchdown for the Cardinals with a rushing touchdown. Kenyan Drake ran the ball for 37 yards. The season might be lost but at least get some spark for next season if you're the Rams.

All-time series: Rams lead 42-38-2

Next week: LA Rams: vs Seattle; Arizona: vs Pittsburgh

TW: 8-4; CV: 6-6

LA Chargers 20, Denver 23: TW: Chargers; CV: Broncos

The game was a bit entertaining than the other two late games but heartbreaking for Chargers fans... if they still have any. Phillip Rivers threw the ball for 265 yards with two touchdowns while throwing an interception. Melvin Gordon almost ran for the century mark at 99 yards with zero touchdowns scored. Drew Lock got the start for Denver and finished the game with 134 yards with two touchdowns as well as one interception. Phillip Lindsay ran the ball for 58 yards for the Broncos. At least you'll be moving into a new stadium next year Chargers.

All-time series: Broncos lead 68-52-1

Oakland 9, Kansas City 40: TW: Chiefs; CV: Chiefs

The game was over by the time Oakland put up 3 points to get themselves on the board at around 5:45 pm (central time), then CBS switched it to Chargers-Broncos. Derek Carr threw for 222 yards with a touchdown while throwing two costly interceptions. Josh Jacobs did have a nice game on the ground with 104 yards on 17 carries. Patrick Mahomes did fine, stats wise with 175 yards with a touchdown pass. The Chiefs running game did all the scoring as Darwin Thompson was the leading rusher with 44 yards and a touchdown. Patrick Mahomes and LeSean McCoy would also score a rushing touchdown with 25 and 10 yards respectively on the ground. Not quite the game that people were hoping for in this ancient rivalry.

New England 22, Houston 28: TW: Patriots; CV: Patriots

By the time the Patriots got back into striking distance, the game was already too late. Tom Brady started off slow but finished the game with 326 yards passing with three touchdowns and an interception. James White would have a decent day on the ground attack with 79 yards rushing. DeShaun Watson threw the ball for 234 yards with three touchdowns while throwing no interceptions in the game. Duke Johnson was the leading rusher for Houston with 36 yards. Could there be no repeat for the Pats? Who knows.

All-time series: Patriots lead 10-2

Minnesota 30, Seattle 37: TW: Seahawks; CV: Vikings

The Kirk Cousins interception cost me a win in fantasy football! Cousins did fine in the game nonetheless with 276 yards passing with two touchdowns. Dalvin Cook ran the ball for a low number of 29 yards with a touchdown though. Anthony Harris would get a pick-six on a play close to the line of scrimmage as he had to go 15 yards to go grab it and run it in for a score. Russell Wilson had similar numbers as he threw for 240 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. The tandem of Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny overmatched the Vikings defense as both runners racked up 102 and 74 yards respectively with a touchdown each. Vikings fans can argue about the PI no call but when your "great defense" gives up that much rushing yards, you might have to look yourselves in the mirror and admit that you lost. Good game though.

NFL 2019 Week 13 Picks

Hello readers! Another week of National Football League action is coming upon us as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches. There is only five more weeks of regular season left in the season and the playoff picture is still hazy as many divisions are very tight. This post will be a fairly long one as there will be a NFL 100 Spotlight, a Thanksgiving tradition in which what all 32 teams are thankful for, and my picks for the Week 13 games. Let's get to work!

NFL 100: A Spotlight

The 1980's was a turning point in the NFL. The previous decade brought much dominance from the American Football Conference. While the AFC would win two more Super Bowl's in the 1980's, the decade belonged to the National Football Conference. The team that would dominate the decade would be the San Francisco 49ers.

In 1979, the San Francisco 49ers hired Bill Walsh to help reverse the course of the franchise. San Francisco's playoff success in the early 70's took a turn for the worst by the mid to late 1970's. Bill Walsh, who made a name for himself as the offensive coordinator with the Cincinnati Bengals from 1968 to 1975, made it a point to help revamp the 49ers offense.

In the draft,  Bill Walsh drafted Joe Montana and Dwight Clark. The arrival of the two wouldn't cause an immediate impact as the 49ers finished 1979 with a 2-14 record. When the team won it's 2nd game the fans stormed Candlestick Park, tore down the goalposts and the 49ers players carried Bill Walsh off the field. It perhaps was a foreshadow of what was about to come for the coming decade.

By 1980, the franchise was finally putting fans in the stands as the 49ers offense was putting points on the board. The problem was that their defense couldn't stop opposing offenses from scoring points. San Francisco would finish the season with a 6-10 record.

In 1981, Bill Walsh would draft his defense, particularly the secondary, with such players like Ronnie Lott and Eric Wright. Their new players along with additions like Fred Dean and Jack "Hacksaw" Reynolds they were the surprise story in 1981 with a 13-3 record. They would beat the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs, the latter game would be known as "The Catch" as Joe Montana hit Dwight Clark for a game-winning touchdown. They would beat the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl XVI.

The next two seasons wouldn't see a Super Bowl championship for San Francisco. In 1982, the 49ers failed to recapture the magic that the previous year found as the 49ers finished 3-6 in the strike-shortened season. The next season would see the 49ers return to success as they finished with a 10-6 record with a division title. They would beat the Detroit Lions in the divisional playoffs but would lose to the Washington Redskins on a questionable pass interference call.

In 1984, the 49ers returned to glory as both their defense and offense dominated the competition with a 15-1 record. They beat the New York Giants and Chicago Bears in the playoffs with scores of 21-10 and 23-0 respectively. They were back in the Super Bowl.

For the 49ers in Super Bowl XIX, their star quarterback in Joe Montana played 2nd fiddle to Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino, who had a successful season. The 1984 Dolphins offense was one of the best in NFL history and made records that stood until the 2007 Patriots broke them. San Francisco's defense would cause havoc against Marino and wouldn't have a great game. Joe Montana, on the other hand, would have one of his greatest games as the 49ers would rout the Dolphins 38-16.

The next three seasons would bring change as the 49ers began to revamp their roster. In 1985, the 49ers drafted a diamond in the rough in Jerry Rice. The 49ers would finish the season with a 10-6 record but would lose to the Giants in the Wild Card round.

In the 1986 draft, the 49ers would draft Charles Haley, Tom Rathman, and John Taylor to help revamp the roster where older veterans would retire. The season was much of the same as the 49ers won the division by a 10-5-1 record. They would lose to the Giants in one of the worst losses in the Bill Walsh era as they were routed 49-3. One of the reasons for the loss was that Joe Montana was knocked out of the game.

The 1987 draft was somewhat of a quiet one as the 49ers would draft Harris Barton out of North Carolina. However, the team traded for Steve Young from Tampa Bay. The team finished with the best record in the strike-shorted season with a 13-2 record. San Francisco's season would end in one of the biggest playoff upsets as the Minnesota Vikings won on the road by a score of 36-24. Joe Montana struggled during the game and Steve Young wouldn't play savior either. Bill Walsh was stripped of his team president badge and there was much doubt whether or not the 49ers were finished.

The 1988 season would see much doubt as Bill Walsh alternated Steve Young and Joe Montana at quarterback. The carousel would match the record as the 49ers limped with a 10-6 record. There was doubt if the 49ers would win the Super Bowl. Joe Montana would recover and return to his past self late in the season and well into the playoffs. They would get their revenge over the Vikings and beat the Bears in the NFC championship game.

Their opponent in Super Bowl XXIII was a familiar one as the Cincinnati Bengals looked to get their revenge over their loss in Super Bowl XVI. They were also coached by Sam Wyche, Joe Montana's former quarterbacks coach. Montana would lead the 49ers on a game-winning drive to beat the Bengals 20-16. The game would be Bill Walsh's last as head coach.

In 1989, the 49ers would continue their momentum and plowed through the competition with a 14-2 record. George Seifert was named head coach. They would beat the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams by scores of 41-13 and 30-3 respectively. Super Bowl XXIV would be one of the biggest routs in NFL history as the 49ers beat the Denver Broncos 55-10 to close out the decade.

While the 49ers in the 1980's weren't quite the dynasty in terms of "X number of championships in less than 5-6 years" they were rather a dominant team that had much success in the decade, rather than being dominant in a period of the decade like the 2000's Patriots or the 1990's Cowboys. Truly the centerpiece for their team was the duo of Joe Montana and Bill Walsh.

Thanksgiving: NFL Style

When I restarted doing blogs on the NFL back in 2017, I made it a tradition to have a "Thanksgiving" portion of the blog where all 32 teams had something to be thankful for. Since everyone has something to be thankful for things like: health, family, friends, etc. This is essentially the same for NFL teams. Here's the list:

Arizona Cardinals: That you have a competent quarterback that you should keep for longer than a year. Seriously give him some help.

Atlanta Falcons: You've had a bad season but you did beat the Saints in the SuperDome in one of the biggest upsets of the season. You have that.

Baltimore Ravens: Lamar fucking Jackson! Enough said.

Buffalo Bills: You've had a soft schedule but you almost beat New England at home. Josh Allen is reasonably good quarterback, give him some help.

Carolina Panthers: You may have found a diamond in the rough in terms of Kyle Allen but more importantly you have Christian McCaffrey as a potential MVP candidate.

Chicago Bears: The Mitchell Trubisky era might be over... soon... eventually.

Cincinnati Bengals: You might be in the running for the #1 pick in the draft!

Cleveland Browns: You still have a shot to make the playoffs despite all the hype that you've gotten.

Dallas Cowboys: The Jason Garrett era might be over... eventually.

Denver Broncos: There's a plethora of quarterbacks in the draft... that John Elway will take another shot at.

Detroit Lions: Can't lose in the playoffs if you're not in the playoffs. Smart move.

Green Bay Packers: Matt LeFleur and Aaron Jones.

Houston Texans: DeShaun Watson has the possiblity to lead you into a division title while your division is terrible.

Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck might've retired but the fact that you're at where you're at is more than enough to be thankful.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Gardner Minshew for giving you four of the four wins you have right now.

Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes, otherwise your inept running game and defense would see this team below .500

Los Angeles Chargers: You're not likely going to go to London but Los Angeles isn't exactly your home either. You could always move back to San Di... oh that's right. :-(

Los Angeles Rams: You've had a rough season but you get to move into a new stadium next year.

Miami Dolphins: You're not going to be the first team to have teams that went 17-0 and 0-16 as a franchise.

Minnesota Vikings: Kirk Cousins resurgence as a passer and Dalvin Cook.

New England Patriots: Tom Brady. You're spoiled as fuck.

New Orleans Saints: Teddy Bridgewater keeping you in the playoff hunt.

New York Giants: Danny Dimes.

New York Jets: Adam Gase is eventually going to be fired... right?

Oakland Raiders: You could potentially still be in the playoffs in your last season at Oakland.

Philadelphia Eagles: Your wide receivers could find their 2nd calling as jugglers since... they drop balls.

Pittsburgh Steelers: You still could get in the playoffs despite losing Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown in the offseason while losing Ben Roethlisberger to injury.

San Francisco 49ers: Your team is reminiscent of those 80's and 90's teams.

Seattle Seahawks: Russell Wilson.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jameis Winston throwing a touchdown pass. Pretty much any pass in general is reason to be thankful for.

Tennessee Titans: Ryan Tannehill has given new life to your offense and you're one of the hotter teams in the NFL.

Washington Redskins: Your team sucks but eventually Daniel Snyder has to go away (whether it'll be death, selling the team). At least you have the Capitals and the Nationals to give you attention.

Week 13 Picks!

Week 13 in the NFL regular season will start in Detroit, Michigan and ends in Seattle, Washington. No teams are on a bye week. There will be three Thursday games, eight early games, three late games, a Sunday night game and a Monday night game. CBS will have the double-header this week while FOX will have the single, regional game. Here are the picks!

Chicago (5-6) @ Detroit (3-7-1) (FOX): TW: Bears; CV: Bears

The Bears beat the Giants and the Lions lost to the Redskins last week. Thanksgiving starts off with a decent match-up with two NFC North rivals. I feel the Bears will get it done based on their defense. Plus, the Lions are starting David Blough whom I had no idea who he was until now. Sorry Lions.

Buffalo (8-3) @ Dallas (6-5) (CBS): TW: Cowboys; CV: Bills

The Bills beat the Broncos and the Cowboys lost to the Patriots last week. The "turkey in your system forcing you to sleep" game features a match-up that the Cowboys should win. Buffalo hasn't played a solid team and won in the same game. I can't trust them. I feel if the Cowboys can get Ezekiel Elliot going and create balance on offense and make Josh Allen beat you, then Dallas has a shot to win.

New Orleans (9-2) @ Atlanta (3-8) (NBC): TW: Saints; CV: Saints

The Saints beat the Panthers and the Falcons lost to the Buccaneers last week. While you're out shopping for gifts, this game will be on. This game wouldn't have much storylines had the Saints beat the Falcons a few weeks ago. The game will be a grand revenge game for New Orleans who upset them at home. Go get 'em.

San Francisco (10-1) @ Baltimore (9-2) (FOX): TW: Ravens; CV: 49ers

Both teams got wins last week as the 49ers beat the Packers and the Ravens beat the Rams. A really good early game to watch if you're bored. The 49ers are traveling cross-country and we will learn a lot about their rush defense and how they can defend against Lamar Jackson and Mark Ingram. I feel the jet lag will effect them the way that Oakland had last week.

Tampa Bay (4-7) @ Jacksonville (4-7) (FOX): TW: Buccaneers; CV: Jaguars

The Buccaneers beat the Falcons and the Jaguars lost to the Titans. Nick Foles has yet to get a win in his tenure at Jacksonville. In general, I like the Bucs pass offense as they do have some great weapons in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin and a running game to match. Jaguars defense is not good.

Tennessee (6-5) @ Indianapolis (6-5) (CBS): TW: Titans; CV: Colts

The Titans beat the Jaguars and Colts lost to the Texans last week. The Colts rush defense will have their hands full in this one as the Titans have a great running attack. The Colts will need to find a capable back to ease some pressure off of Jacoby Brissett. Ultimately, I like the Titans running game and their quarterback Ryan Tannehill has done well in Marcus Mariota's stead.

Washington (2-9) @ Carolina (5-6) (CBS): TW: Panthers, CV: Panthers

The Redskins beat the Lions and the Panthers lost to the Saints last week. The game is a mismatch on offense as the Panthers have balance on offense, while the Redskins... don't. Washington's defense could make this game interesting and close but I don't see them slowing or stopping Christian McCaffrey.

Philadelphia (5-6) @ Miami (2-9) (FOX): TW: Eagles; CV: Eagles

Both teams lost last week as the Eagles lost to the Seahawks and the Dolphins lost to the Browns. The game is a must win for the Eagles if they want to stay with the Cowboys in the division race. It will take a lot of luck for them to get a wild card spot. Miami isn't quite the team to match with the Eagles but this game could be an upset if you're not too careful. I'll take the safe bet with Philly.

NY Jets (4-7) @ Cincinnati (0-11) (CBS): TW: Jets; CV: Jets

The Jets beat the Raiders and the Bengals lost to the Steelers last week. If there was a game where the Bengals could get win #1, it is this one. It's a long shot but its better than 0% chance. Unfortunately, I like the Jets in their pass offense and their overall defense. I'm gonna take the safe bet again and take the Jets.

Green Bay (8-3) @ NY Giants (2-9) (FOX): TW: Packers; CV:  Packers

Both teams lost last week as the Packers lost to the 49ers and the Giants lost to the Bears. Green Bay had its worst showing last week and they're heading into a period of playing weaker teams in the schedule. Aaron Rodgers and the offense needs to play better and get back to the plays that made them an 8-3 team. Green Bay's defense should be alright as the Giants offense outside of Saquon Barkley pose a tremendous threat.

Cleveland (5-6) @ Pittsburgh (6-5) (CBS): TW: Steelers; CV: Steelers

Both teams got wins last week as the Browns beat the Dolphins and the Steelers beat the Bengals. The game will have intensity but not the "helmet swinging" intensity as the last game. Cleveland could very well win the game but they haven't done well on the road with a 2-3 record so far. Devlin Hodges has a small sample size of tape but I feel that Hodges is a winner and can play confident in this game. The loss of Myles Garrett due to the suspension will hurt the Browns defense. If the Steelers defense can cause havoc against the Browns offense, they got a good chance to win.

LA Rams (6-5) @ Arizona (3-7-1) (FOX): TW: Rams; CV: Rams

The Rams lost to the Ravens and the Cardinals were on a bye last week. Arizona will have an extra week of rest while the Rams look to redeem themselves after a terrible loss. I think the Rams will win based on their running game and a capable quarterback that can throw to his receivers. I don't like the Rams chances if they let the Cardinals hang around in this game as Kyler Murray can get it done with his legs and arm.

LA Chargers (4-7) @ Denver (3-8) (CBS): TW: Chargers; CV: Broncos

The Chargers were on a bye and the Broncos lost to the Bills last week. Phillip Rivers had pretty bad game against the Chiefs two weeks ago and the Broncos defense are hungry for his mistakes. Denver has a pretty good running game and its hard to say which team's run game will win the game. I tend to lean the Chargers as they do have a decent defense.

Oakland (6-5) @ Kansas City (7-4) (CBS): TW: Chiefs; CV: Chiefs

The Raiders lost to the Jets and the Chiefs were on a bye last week. The Raiders-Chiefs rivalry will have its best chance to reignite in this one. The Chiefs running game will need to step it up and keep Patrick Mahomes on the field as he presents the biggest obstacle for the Raiders to win. It's a tough task and the Raiders will utilize Josh Jacobs to the fullest extent but the Chiefs will get a win at home.

New England (10-1) @ Houston (7-4) (NBC): TW: Patriots; CV: Patriots

Both teams got wins last week as the Patriots beat the Cowboys and the Texans beat the Colts. The game looks like a good one as both teams have capable quarterbacks and running games to match. Defense will be the deciding factor in this game as New England presents a great challenge against the Texans offense as they can shut down any team, especially when it comes to scoring touchdowns. I like the Pats defense.

Minnesota (8-3) @ Seattle (9-2) (ESPN): TW: Seahawks; CV: Vikings

The Vikings were on a bye and the Seahawks beat the Eagles last week. Minnesota will be on extra rest in the game while the Seahawks look to keep up in the division race with San Francisco. Both teams really are similar and I feel the Vikings defense is better than Seattle's, I feel the balanced attack of Seattle will expose the Vikings defense. Seattle will need to shut down Dalvin Cook if they want a shot to get a win. Definitely an entertaining match-up to end the week.
