NFL 2024 Week 6 Recap

Hello readers! Another week of National Football League action has come to an end. The week that was Week 6 brought us some entertaining storylines. Such storylines like a duel in Baltimore, a back-and-forth game in Tennessee, a debut in New England, a blowout in New Orleans and a Scorigami in Dallas. All those storylines and more in this week's recap post for Week 6.

NFL Week 6 Freaky Stat

Prior to their game against New England, the Houston Texans had never won in Gillette Stadium. They were 0-7. Granted most of those contests were against some guy named Tom Brady.

NFL Week 6 Recap

San Francisco 36, Seattle 24

Pick: 49ers

The 49ers get a big win on the road. Brock Purdy was pretty solid in this game. he hit 18 of 28 passes for 255 yards for three touchdowns. George Kittle caught the two passes for scores while Deebo Samuel had the longest play for a score on a 76-yard play that was the result of a 1-play drive. On the play, Deebo had one-one one coverage and blew by the corner and managed to avoid a collision and/or interception from a Seattle defender and would see daylight. Isaac Guerendo rushed 10 times for 99 yards. Jordan Mason did start but would suffer a shoulder injury during the 1st half. He would finish with nine carries for 73 yards. Deebo Samuel had three catches for 102 yards. The 49ers had 483 total yards in the game while dominating the ball possession with 33:03 minutes of ball hogging with 21 first downs. They had an issue with closing games and certainly the Seahawks cut the lead down to six points but it was to no avail as the Niners won. For the 49ers, they rebound and improve to 3-3.

Geno Smith hit 30 of 52 passes for 312 yards with a touchdown pass to Tyler Lockett but also tossed two interceptions. Kenneth Walker III had 14 carries for 32 yards with a touchdown. It was bit of a frustrating night for him as he would see 49ers a lot in the line of scrimmage and couldn't drive down the field. Tyler Lockett caught four passes for 65 yards in the game. Seattle had 358 total yards with 22 first downs. The Seahawks managed to cut the lead down to 23-17 at one point in the game which might've been another blown lead by the 49ers. The keys to the loss has been the lack of defense as they gave up 36 points as well as turnovers as the Seahawks had the two interceptions but also had a fumble on a kickoff return that gave the ball back to the Niners. Not exactly something that you want to do when you want to win games. For the Seahawks, they have dropped their 3rd straight game as they go to 3-3.

Jacksonville 16, Chicago 35

Pick: Bears

The Bears dominate the Jaguars in London. Trevor Lawrence hit 23 of 35 passes for 234 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Gabe Davis was the player that caught the passes from Lawrence for scores. The interception happened in the 4th quarter on their first drive. Mac Jones played a bit in the game with one pass completed for a six yard gain. Dernest Johnson had six carries for 28 yards. Evan Engram had ten catches for 102 yards to be the leading receiver for the Jags. At the end of the day, the Jaguars had 278 total yards in the game with 29:20 of ball possession. Turnovers really hurt the Jaguars in this game as they fumbled in the 3rd quarter while also tossing the interception in the 4th quarter. For the Jaguars, they drop to 1-5 as their season spirals out of control. At least they don't have to travel far next week.

Caleb Williams had 23 of 29 passes for 226 yards and four touchdowns but also tossed an interception. Of the four touchdowns, Cole Kmet had two touchdowns and Keenan Allen had the other two for scores. Allen was a free agent acquisition from the Chargers. Dandre Swift had 91 yards rushing with a touchdown. Cole Kmet had five catches for 70 yards to be the leading receiver for the Da Bears. The Bears had 373 total yards in the game with 25 first downs. They only had 5 of 11 3rd down conversions but did take advantage of turnovers. For the Bears, they improve to 4-2 and head into a bye week for Week 7.

Arizona 13, Green Bay 34

Pick: Packers

Trey Benson was the leading rusher for the Cardinals with five carries for 26 yards. Trey McBride had eight catches for 96 yards. Marvin Harrison Jr was targeted two times in the game but had no catches. The Cardinals offense, which had been good going into this week did not score until their 3rd drive in the 2nd quarter. Last week, this team overcame a deficit against the 49ers. Arizona had 303 total yards in the game. For the Cardinals, they drop to 2-4 on the season.

Of the touchdowns, Romeo Doubs had two catches for scores, Christian Watson had one and Jayden Reed had the other for scores. Josh Jacobs had 18 carries for 62 yards in the game. The Packers offense did most of their scoring with 24 of their 34 points being scored in the first half. Their defense did the rest in the 2nd half. For the Packers, they improve to 4-2 on the season.

Next week:

Arizona: vs LA Chargers (Monday night)
Green Bay: vs Houston

TW: 3-0

Cleveland 16, Philadelphia 20

Pick: Eagles

A low scoring contest in Philly. DeShaun Watson hit 16 of 23 passes for 168 yards in the game. He didn't score a touchdown but he didn't throw an interception either. Jerome Ford was the starter but left the game with a hamstring injury. He had two carries for 14 yards before the injury. Pierre Strong Jr. had eight carries for 43 yards. Amari Cooper had caught four passes for 42 yards. The longest play in the game for the Browns was a 35-yard play to Jerry Jeudy. Cleveland go a boost in scoring from their special teams with a blocked Jake Elliott field goal that was recovered by Rodney McLeod for a 50-yard score in he 2nd quarter. Dustin Hopkins hit three field goals in the game with a 49-yard field goal being the longest in the game. Cleveland had 244 total yards in the game. Their offense wouldn't do much in this game but they did have the ball longer than the Eagles. For the Browns, they drop their 4th straight game with a 1-5 record.

Jalen Hurts hit 16 of 25 passes for 264 yards with two touchdowns. AJ Brown and Devonta Smith were the Eagles that caught the passes from Hurts. Saquon Barkley had 18 carries for 47 yards not a lot to get for him in this game. AJ Brown had six catches for 116 yards in the game with a 40-yard catch for a gain. Philadelphia had 372 total yards in the game Despite the close game, the Eagles offense had 19 first downs but also had sacked DeShaun Watson five times in the game. Josh Sweat, Nolan Smith and Jalen Carter had three sacks combined. For the Eagles, they get back to the winning column after the week off with a 3-2 record.

Next week:

Cleveland: vs Cincinnati
Philadelphia: @ NY Giants

TW: 4-0

Houston 41, New England 21

Pick: Texans

The Texans get win #1 in Gillette. CJ Stroud hit 20 of 31 passes for 192 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. The interception was hit in the endzone. Stefon Diggs caught a pass for a touchdown in his first receiving score as a Texan. Tank Dell and Joe Mixon were the other two that caught the passes from Stroud. Joe Mixon had 13 carries for 102 yards with a touchdown run that was from 59 yards. Dameon Pierce had a 50+ yard touchdown run of his own as he rushed eight times for 76 yards. Stefon Diggs had six catches for 77 yards in the game to be the leading receiver. Houston had 368 total yards in the contest and grabbed four turnovers in the game. For the Texans, they improve to a 5-1 record with a decent lead in the AFC South.

The Patriots made the choice to start Drake Maye, the rookie out of North Carolina. The former Tar Heel hit 20 of 33 passes for 243 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Demario Douglsa, Kayshon Boutte and Hunter Henry were the players that caught the passes from Maye. Maye's first career touchdown went to Kayshon Boutte on a 40-yard deep bomb that cut the Texans lead to 14-7 with the point after. Maye was also the leading rusher for the Pats with five carries for 38 yards with a 15-yard run being the longest in the game. Demario Douglas caught six passes for 92 yards. Despite the blowout loss, the Drake Maye experiment was somewhat of a success as the three touchdowns was the Patriots first time this season they broke 20+ points and hadn't done that point total since Week 14 of last season. New England had 291 total yards in the game. For the Patriots, they can feel somewhat optimistic about Maye's future but drop their 5th straight game with a 1-5 record.

Next week:

Houston: @ Green Bay
New England: @ Jacksonville (Sunday morning)

TW: 5-0

Indianapolis 20, Tennessee 17

Pick: Colts

A Joe Flacco to Michael Pittman touchdown gives the Colts the edge. Flacco hit 22 of 38 passes for 189 yards with two touchdowns but also tossed an interception. Josh Downs had the first touchdown on a 22-yard play that came on the Colts first drive of the game. The 2nd touchdown came in the 4th quarter for Michael Pittman that gave the Colts a 20-17 lead for good. Tyler Goodson had eight carries for 51 yards with a 33-yard play being the longest in the game. Josh Downs had seven catches for 66 yards. Indy had 269 total yards in the game. The game would change hands four times with two ties in the game. For the Colts, they get back to an even record with 3-3.

Will Levis hit 16 of 27 passes for 95 yards with a touchdown but also tossed an interception. Nick Westbrookikhine was the Titan that caught the pass from Levis for a 9-yard play. Tony Pollard had 17 carries for 93 yards and a touchdown in the game. The touchdown was on a 23-yard play that gave the Titans a 17-10 lead going into the 4th quarter. DeAndre Hopkins had four catches for 54 yards with a 23-yard play being the longest in the game. Tennessee had 241 total yards in the game. For the Titans, they drop to 1-4 on the season after the week off.

Next week:

Indianapolis: vs Miami
Tennessee: @ Buffalo

TW: 6-0

Tampa Bay 51, New Orleans 27

Pick: Buccaneers

Tampa Bay blows out the Saints in the Superdome. Baker Mayfield hit 24 of 36 passes for 325 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions. Chris Godwin had two, Sean Tucker had one and Cade Otton had the other for a total of the four touchdowns thrown by Mayfield to those players for scores. Sean Tucker had a big day on the ground with 14 carries for 136 yards with a touchdown run. Bucky Irving had 14 carries as well but had 81 yards with a touchdown run of his own. The Bucs had 594 total yards in the game. Tampa recovered a fumble for a touchdown that was recovered by Antoine Winfield Jr. for a 58-yard return. Tampa took advantage of poor tackling by New Orleans to get to the 51 point, 594 total yard game today. It was a game that maybe brought some joy for the people of Tampa that got hit hard by Hurricane Milton during the middle of last week. For the Buccaneers, they improve to 4-2 on the season.

Spencer Rattler had a tough game as he hit 22 of 40 passes for 243 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Rattler's touchdown went to Bub Means (nice name buddy) in the 2nd quarter for the former South Carolina Gamecock's first passing touchdown of his young career. Alvin Kamara had 13 carries for 40 yards with a touchdown. New Orleans special teams had a score on a Rashid Shaheed punt-six for a 54-yard return. Foster Moreau had two catches for 54 yards in the game. New Orleans had 303 total yards in the game. It was an ugly game for turnovers as both teams had three turnovers each with the Bucs having three interceptions while the Saints had two interceptions and a fumble. For the Saints, they drop to 2-4 with a short rest before playing on Thursday night.

Next week:

Tampa Bay: vs Baltimore (Monday night)
New Orleans: vs Denver (Thursday night)

TW: 7-0

Washington 23, Baltimore 30

Pick: Ravens

An entertaining game that lived up to the hype. Jayden Daniels threw 24 of 35 completed passes for 269 yards with two touchdowns. Both of them went to Terry McLaurin for 7 and 6 yard plays with the latter touchdown caught close to the out of bounds marker. Jayden Daniels was the leading rusher with 22 yards on six carries. Austin Ekeler had 21 yards rushing on nine carries. Zach Ertz had four catches for 68 yards in the game. Washington had 305 total yards of offense in the game. A lack of a running game didn't help the Commanders in this game as they had just 52 rushing yards in the game. For the Commanders, their 4-game winning streak ends as they drop to 4-2, they haven't lost a game since Week 1.

Lamar Jackson hit 20 of 26 passes for 323 total yards with a touchdown to Mark Andrews but also tossed an interception. The Mark Andrews touchdown was on a 13-yard play on a short pass down the middle in a tight end's favorite spot. Derrick Henry was a workhorse and a tank for Baltimore with 24 carries for 132 yards and two tuddies. Zay Flowers had nine catches for 132 yards of receiving for him. Baltimore had 484 total yards in the game with 28 first downs and were efficient on 3rd down with 6 of 10 conversions. Baltimore was ahead for most of the game and held the ball for 36:08 minutes and seconds in the game. For the Ravens, they win the 4th straight game and improve to a 4-2 record.

Next week:

Washington: vs Carolina
Baltimore: @ Tampa Bay (Monday night)

TW: 8-0

LA Chargers 23, Denver 16

Pick: Broncos

The Chargers survive a late Broncos surge. Justin Herbert started this game after some were questioning if he would be able to play. He hit 21 of 34 passes for 237 yards with a touchdown pass to Kimani Vidal. JK Dobbins saw the ball a lot as he carried 25 times for 96 yards with a touchdown to cap off his day. Simi Fehoko was the leading receiver with two catches for 44 yards with a 30-yard play being the longest for him of the two catches. Ladd McConkey had four catches for 43 yards. The Chargers really kept at it on offense as they had 75 plays with an average gain of 4.7 yards/play to a total of 350 yards. There was some questioning whether or not head coach Jim Harbaugh would coach in this game as he was questionable with an illness. He would coach in the game and see it through. For the Chargers, they improve to 3-2 with a trip to the desert next week.

Bo Nix would do all of the offense for Denver. He hit 19 of 33 passes for 216 yards with two touchdowns but also tossed an interception. The first touchdown went to Troy Franklin that cut the Charger lead to 23-7 with the point after. The 2nd went to Cortland Sutton for a 15-yard play that was initially ruled a catch but after a review the call was upheld. Personally, I think it was a catch. Bo Nix the runner rushed for 61 yards on six carries with a 21-yard run. Devaughn Vele had four catches for 78 yards with a 37-yard play being the longest for the Broncos. Denver had 316 total yards in the game with 17 first downs while going 3 of 11 on 3rd down but did go 2 for 2 on 4th down conversions. Denver had a chance to win it but two failed onside kicks failed to either go the necessary 10 yards or a Broncos player failed to grab the recovery. For the Broncos, their 3-game winning streak ends as they fall to 3-3.

Next week:

LA Chargers: @ Arizona (Monday night)

Denver: @ New Orleans (Thursday night)

TW: 8-1

Pittsburgh 32, Las Vegas 13

Pick: Steelers

The Steelers blow out the Raiders in Sin City. Justin Fields hit 14 of 24 passes for 145 yards. Fields the runner had a better game as he rushed 11 times for 59 yards with two touchdowns. Najee Harris had 14 carries for 106 yards with a touchdown with a 36-yard touchdown run being the longest in the game. Chris Boswell hit four field goals in the game in a general dominating scoring effort from the Steelers. George Pickens had three catches for 53 yards in the game. Pittsburgh's offense had 293 total yards in the game. The Steelers would take advantage of turnovers by either a fumble, interception or by turnover by downs. For the Steelers, they rebound after the Dallas loss to a 4-2 record.

Aidan O'Connell had 27 of 40 passes for 227 yards with a touchdown but had an interception in the game. The passing touchdown went to Kristan Wilkerson for a 9-yard play in the 4th quarter that cut the Steelers lead to 29-13 but they failed in a 2-point conversion. Alexander Mattison had 14 carries for 33 yards with a touchdown that gave the Raiders their lone lead in the game. Brock Bowers had nine catches for 71 yards in the game to be the leading receiver for the Raiders. Las Vegas had 275 total yards in the game. The Raiders only scored in the 1st and the 4th quarters while their 2nd and 3rd quarters were left to be desired as all six drives were either a punt, fumble or a blocked punt. For the Raiders, they drop to 2-4 on the season.

Next week:

Pittsburgh: vs NY Jets (Sunday night)
Las Vegas: @ LA Rams

TW: 9-1

Atlanta 38, Carolina 20

Pick: Falcons

The Falcons dismantle the Panthers on the road. Kirk Cousins hit 19 of 30 passes for 225 yards with a touchdown pass to Drake London for a 3-yard play that increased the Falcons lead to 22-10 with the point after. Tyler Allgeier had 18 carries for 105 yards with a touchdown. Bijan Robinson had 15 carries for 95 yards with two touchdowns. The rushing touchdowns were from 5, 7 and 2 yard plays. It was a quieter day for Cousins who had 509 passing yards in a win against the Buccaneers last week. Drake London caught six passes for 74 yards in the game to be the leading receiver for the Falcons. Kyle Pitts had three catches for 70 yards with a 52-yard play being the longest for Atlanta. It was really a dominating effort for the Falcons as they would take a 15-10 lead late in the 2nd quarter and wouldn't relinquish it. Atlanta had 423 total yards. For the Falcons, they improve to 4-2 and head back home next week.

Andy Dalton would have an interesting time in this game. He hit 26 of 38 passes for 221 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette were the recipients of the passes from Andy "Red Rifle" Dalton. The interceptions came in the 2nd half so its not like they were in it for most of the game. Chuba Hubbard had 18 carries for 92 yards in the game with 19 yard run being the longest in the game. Diontae Johnson was the leading receiver with six catches for 78 yards. The Panthers defense didn't really stand a chance in this game but did recover a Falcons fumble in the 2nd quarter that lead to a Panthers field goal. Carolina had 335 total yards in the game. For the Panthers, their season plummets still as they drop to 1-5.

Next week:

Atlanta: vs Seattle
Carolina: @ Washington

TW: 10-1

Detroit 47, Dallas 9

Pick: Lions

It was a bad day in Big D but we have a scorigami! Jared Goff hit 18 of 25 passes for 315 yards with three touchdowns. Of the three touchdowns, Jameson Williams, Sam LaPorta and AmonRa St. Brown had scored a touchdown via pass from Goff. Hendon Hooker played some as he hit 1 of 2 passes for 19 yards. David Montgomery had 12 carries for 80 yards with two touchdowns from 16 and 1 yard plays. Sam LaPorta's touchdown was the longest in the game with a 52-yard play for six points. Jameson Williams had three catches for 76 yards. Detroit had 492 total yards in the game. The game was a costly one as Aidan Hutchinson suffered an injury that made some squeamish as he was holding his left leg. It was a revenge game for the Lions who lost last year over a controversial ineligible player downfield penalty. The Lions tried to get a player a catch but failed to catch a pass as it was incomplete. For the Lions, the win improves their record to 4-1.

It was owner Jerry Jones's 82nd birthday and it was a day to forget for the birthday boy. Dak Prescott hit 17 of 33 passes for 178 yards and tossed two interceptions. With the game out of reach, the Cowboys let backup Cooper Rush hit 8 of 11 passes for 46 yards with an interception of his own. Rico Dowdle would not get a lot of yards as he had five carries for 25 yards. CeeDee Lamb was the leading receiver for the Cowboys with seven catches for 89 yards. Dallas had just 251 total yards in the game. The Cowboys had turnovers, missed tackles and played bad defense in general. The loss is the worst home loss in the Jerry Jones era since the oil tycoon bought the team back in 1989. For the Cowboys, the loss drops them back to .500 football with a 3-3 record with a lot to think about with a bye next week.

Next week:

Detroit: @ Minnesota
Dallas: Bye

TW: 11-1

Cincinnati 17, NY Giants 7

Pick: Bengals

A low scoring affair in New York favors the Bengals. Joe Burrow hit 19 of 28 passes for 208 yards. Burrow rushed four times for 55 yards with a 47-yard run ended up being a touchdown that gave the Bengals a 7-0 in the first quarter. Bengals fans had a bit of a scare as a Brian Burns blitz hit Burrow hard that he had to go into the blue tent. Fortunately, Burrow stayed in the game and finished. Chase Brown had 10 carries for 53 yards with a touchdown with the 30-yard touchdown that got the Bengals to the 17-7 final score. Tee Higgins had a big game with seven catches for 77 yards. The Bengals had 304 total yards in the game but had 25:53 of ball possession time. Their offense kind of was pedestrian but so was the Giants. For the Bengals, they get a much needed win as they improve to 2-4 and get their first win against the Giants since 2012.

The Giants celebrated 100 years as a franchise at halftime, bringing with players of Giants past to commemorate the occasion. Daniel Jones hit 22 of 41 passes for 205 yards with an interception. The interception was a toss up pass that looked like a duck in the air that was intercepted by Germaine Pratt. Daniel Jones had 11 carries for 56 yards in the game. The lone Giants touchdown came on a 1-yard play by Tyrone Tracy Jr. in the 3rd quarter. Leading receiver was tied at 57 yards receiving as Tyrone Tracy Jr. had six catches for that amount and Darius Slayton had six catches as well. New York had 309 total yards in the game. The game was without Malik Nabers who was out with an injury. For the Giants, they drop to 2-4 on the season

Next week:

Cincinnati: @ Cleveland
NY Giants: vs Philadelphia

TW: 12-1

Buffalo 23, NY Jets 20

Pick: Bills

The Bills survive the Jets in East Rutherford. Josh Allen hi 19 of 25 passes for 215 yards with two touchdowns. Dawson Knox and Mack Hollins were the players that caught the passes from Allen. Josh Allen the runner scored a rushing touchdown in he game while getting 18 yards on nine carries. Ray Davis had 20 carries for 97 yards as James Cook was out for this game with an injury. Ray Davis was also the leading receiver in he game with three catches for 55 yards in the game. Buffalo had 359 total yards in the game. It wasn't a pretty game for the Bills with 11 flags for 94 yards but the Jets also had 11 infractions for 110 yards. For the Bills, they break out of their funk with a 4-2 record.

New York had a busy week with the firing of Robert Saleh and Nathaniel Hackett. It was a better showing for Aaron Rodgers. The veteran hit 23 of 35 passes for 294 yards with two touchdowns but tossed an interception that was a game-breaking one as the Bills would run the clock. Alan Lazard and Garrett Wilson were the Jets that caught the passes from Rodgers. Breece Hall had a solid game in running the ball with a 18 carry, 113 yards rushing performance with a 42-yard run being the longest in the game on the ground. The Lazard touchdown was a 52-yard deep bomb that cut the Bills lead to a 20-17 score with the point after at the end of the 1st half. A play that made some fans reminisce of his playing days in Green Bay. Alan Lazard had six catches for 114 yards while Garrett Wilson had eight catches for 107 yards. New York had 393 total yards in the game. For the Jets, their changes went in vain as they drop to 2-4 on the season
