Hello readers! Another week of National Football League action is coming upon us. The week that is features some tantalizing matchups like the Browns-Steelers rivalry reviving, and another Aaron Rodgers-Tom Brady matchup that's on the late-game slot on FOX. In this post i'll talk about my picks for the week's games. Let's get to work!
Week 6 Picks
Week 6 in the National Football League's regular season will start with nine early games on Sunday as there is no Thursday night game due to Chiefs-Bills moving to Monday. Along with the nine early games there will be two late games, a Sunday night game and two games on Monday. CBS will have the single, regional game while FOX will have the doubleheader. The Los Angeles Chargers, New Orleans Saints, Las Vegas Raiders, and Seattle Seahawks have byes this week. Let's go to the picks!
Cleveland (4-1) @ Pittsburgh (4-0) (CBS): TW: Steelers; CV: Steelers
Both teams got wins last week as the Browns beat the Colts and the Steelers beat the Eagles. The rivalry hasn't been that great for a few years but last year's altercation between Myles Garrett and Mason Rudolph certainly changed the narrative. Now both teams are looking to fight for 1st place in the division. As much as I want to give the Browns a chance in this game, I can't trust them to take the next step and overtake their much more successful rival on the road. Pittsburgh just seems like a better team than Cleveland.
Cincinnati (1-3-1) @ Indianapolis (3-2) (FOX): TW: Colts; CV: Colts
Both teams lost as the Bengals lost to the Ravens and the Colts lost to the Browns last week. The Bungles proved last week that they need help for Joe Burrow for him to be successful, for example an offensive line. Indy's defense will give them some problems especially in the defensive line. Cincinnati could make it a game but I don't trust them to possibly defeat a Colts team on the road.
Denver (1-3) @ New England (2-2) (CBS): TW: Patriots; CV: Patriots
Both teams were supposed to play this game last week but it was postponed due to COVID positive tests. My opinion on who I think will win this game hasn't changed all that much. I think New England will win despite possibly not having Stephon Gilmore or Cam Newton in the lineup. If they are then I don't think Denver will have a shot to take them down.
Detroit (1-3) @ Jacksonville (1-4) (FOX): TW: Jaguars; CV: Jaguars
The Lions were on a bye and the Jaguars lost to the Texans last week. Two one-win teams and at least one of them will walk out with win #2. Both teams aren't particularly great on defense but do have some decent running games. If I had to choose who would win, I would give it to the Jaguars due to better quarterback play with Gardner Minshew and the Jags offense playing well enough as well.
Washington (1-4) @ NY Giants (0-5) (FOX): TW: Giants; CV: Giants
Both teams lost last week as the Football team lost to the Rams and the Giants lost to the Cowboys. Washington could not have Antonio Gibson in the game and that will not bode well for their offense staying balanced. If there was a time when New York has a shot to win, this would be the best chance to do it. Stability at the quarterback position is key and Daniel Jones has been meager at best but it could be worse.
Houston (1-4) @ Tennessee (4-0) (CBS): TW: Titans; CV: Titans
Both teams won last week as the Texans beat the Jaguars and the Titans beat the Bills. Tennessee looked very impressive destroying a good Bills team at home. They stayed balanced on offense and took advantage of turnovers given to them into points. Houston's key to win would to not make mistakes and force Ryan Tannehill into beating you by shutting down Derrick Henry. I don't see them doing this but any coach other than Bill O'Brien seems to be a better option at this point.
Chicago (4-1) @ Carolina (3-2) (FOX): TW: Panthers; CV: Bears
Both teams won last week as the Bears beat the Buccaneers and the Panthers beat the Falcons. It is still an enigma to me that the Panthers have found ways to win despite not having Christian McCaffrey in their lineup. They've won by means of Teddy Bridgewater. I feel the Panthers have a shot in that if they don't play ugly football and stay with the formula that has won them these games, I like their chances. Huge test to see how good the Bears can really be.
Baltimore (4-1) @ Philadelphia (1-3-1) (CBS): TW: Ravens; CV: Ravens
The Ravens beat the Bengals and the Eagles lost to the Steelers. Lamar Jackson may not have put up the numbers that made him the MVP last season but the goal is to stay good enough to put up a great fight in the Steelers. Baltimore seems to be the more healthier team and don't have key guys on injury. Carson Wentz and company did make some noise last week against one of the better defenses in the Steelers. I can't see them to put up the same numbers as last week.
Atlanta (0-5) @ Minnesota (1-4) (FOX): TW: Vikings; CV: Vikings
Both teams lost last week as the Falcons lost to the Panthers and the Vikings to the Seahawks. Dan Quinn got fired last week and it is questionable as to how well the Falcons will respond to this. Atlanta is in the midst of a lost season and it is possible that stars could be leaving via trade, for example Matt Ryan. Minnesota isn't that much better either as their defense has been questionable a lot of times this year. Kirk Cousins deserves as much blame as well. Perhaps with zero giveaways the Vikings will stand on top of this game.
NY Jets (0-5) @ Miami (1-4) (CBS): TW: Dolphins; CV: Dolphins
The Jets lost to the Cardinals and the Dolphins beat the 49ers. A lot of people were surprised at how the Dolphins beat the defending NFC champion 49ers on the road. whether it was poor quarterback play or or Miami's defense has seen improvement so far this season. Or it could be Ryan Fitzpatrick playing better. New York is a hot mess and Adam Gase is still somehow head coach. Also, Sam Darnold is out of this game and Joe Flacco is in. I rest my case.
Green Bay (4-0) @ Tampa Bay (3-2) (FOX): TW: Packers; CV: Packers
The Packers were on a bye and the Buccaneers lost to the Bears last week. Despite Tom Brady forgetting what down it was, the Bucs discipline issues with penalties continue to haunt them. If they can limit that amount and keep the high-flying Packers offense at bay on the sideline, you have a good shot to win. I like Ronald Jones but Green Bay does have a top-10 rush defense. I don't see how the Bucs can compete with them but I have been wrong before about the Packers.
LA Rams (4-1) @ San Francisco (2-3) (NBC): TW: Rams; CV: Rams
The Rams beat the Football Team and the 49ers lost to the Dolphins last week. The Rams-49ers rivalry wasn't good for a while but the recent trips to a Super Bowl for both teams certainly makes this game a worthwhile watch. It is hard to say who should get the shot at quarterback for the 49ers but I don't think won't matter much in the end. If the Rams defense can shut down the passing game of San Francisco, it will be a tough sell for me to take them in this one. Tough road to climb for the 49ers in this one. Super Bowl hangover is real.
Kansas City (4-1) @ Buffalo (4-1) (NFL Network): TW: Bills; CV: Chiefs
Both teams lost last week as the Chiefs lost to the Raiders and the Bills lost to the Titans. Kansas City's defensive woes reared their ugly head last week as they gave up 40 points to the Raiders. Could they have a repeat performance against the Bills? It is possible as Josh Allen has been known to throw for over 400 yards. It is really hard to say who will take this one as both teams are pretty well built. Can't go wrong with the home team.
Arizona (3-2) @ Dallas (2-3) (ESPN): TW: Cardinals; CV: Cardinals
Both teams won last week as the Cardinals beat the Jets and the Cowboys beat the Giants. The week finishes up with the Cardinals to take on the Cowboys without Dak Prescott. Arizona has been playing well on offense with a few hiccups in terms of turnovers by Kyler Murray. With the way Dallas's defense has played up to this point, it would seem a certainty that the Cowboys will give up at least 30+ points in the game. I'll take the Cards.
