NFL 2020 Week 6 Recap

Hello readers! Another week of National Football League action has come and gone. The week that was brought some big drama like: Atlanta getting their first win, Baker Mayfield getting benched during the game, and Miami demolishing the Jets (actually no real big surprise there). In the post I'll talk about the week's past action.

Week 6 Recap

Cleveland 7, Pittsburgh 38: TW: Steelers; CV: Steelers
We learned a lot about the Browns, they still aren't ready for the next level and that is to beat the Steelers. Baker Mayfield started for Cleveland and threw for 119 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. He would get benched for Case Keenum in the 3rd quarter, who would only muster 46 yards passing. The Brownies wouldn't get a lot from their running game as Kareen Hunt could muster 40 yards from the ground. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 162 yards with a touchdown pass. James Conner, Bennie Snell Jr, and Chase Claypool would get rushing touchdowns in the game with 101, 17, and seven yards rushing respectively. Minkah Fitzpatrick would intercept a Mayfield pass for a touchdown as well to add to the scoring for Pittsburgh.

Next week:
Cleveland: @ Cincinnati; Pittsburgh: @ Tennessee

TW: 1-0; CV: 1-0

Cincinnati 27, Indianapolis 31: TW: Colts; CV: Colts
Cincinnati had at one point a 21-0 lead and then Indy went on a 31-6 run to win. Ouch. Joe Burrow threw for 313 yards while throwing an interception. Burrow would score a rushing touchdown as well. Joe Mixon ran for 54 yards with a rushing touchdown while Giovanni Bernard scored a rushing touchdown with 15 yards as well. Phillip Rivers of the Colts threw for 371 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Jonathan Taylor rushed for 60 yards and Trey Burton scored a rushing touchdown in the game for Indy.

Next week:
Cincinnati: vs Cleveland; Indianapolis: Bye

TW: 2-0; CV: 2-0

Denver 18, New England 12: TW: Patriots; CV: Patriots
The game that was supposed to be played a few weeks ago ended up being pretty ugly. Drew Lock threw for 189 yards and threw two interceptions. Phillip Lindsay ran for 101 yards and Royce Freeman ran for 26 yards. Brandon McManus would hit six field goals for Denver giving the Broncos all the points they need in this one. Cam Newton threw for 157 yards with two interceptions as well. Newton ran for 76 yards with a touchdown. Nick Folk would hit two field goals as well for the Patriots. New England below .500 is strange as hell.

Next week:
Denver: vs Kansas City; New England: vs San Francisco

TW: 2-1; CV: 2-1

Detroit 34, Jacksonville 16: TW: Jaguars, CV: Jaguars
Matthew Stafford has thrown a touchdown pass against every other team except the Lions. Useless Bar Trivia or to impress a girl, I'd say both. Stafford threw for 223 yards with a touchdown with an interception. Dandre Swift ran for 116 yards with two touchdowns and Adrian Peterson ran for 40 yards with a touchdown as well. Kenny Golladay had 105 receiving yards, his longest was 48 yards. Gardner Minshew threw for 243 yards with a touchdown with an interception. Minshew ran for 14 yards with a touchdown run. James Robinson couldn't get a lot for rushing yardage as he went for 29 yards in the game.

Next week:
Detroit: @ Atlanta; Jacksonville: @ LA Chargers

TW: 2-2; CV: 2-2

Washington 19, NY Giants 20: TW: Giants; CV: Giants
Oh Washington, you almost had it. Kyle Allen threw for 280 yards with two touchdowns and threw for an interception. JD McKissic ran for 41 yards and Antonio Gibson ran for 30 yards. Daniel Jones threw for 112 yards with a touchdown while throwing an interception. Jones would also be the leading rusher for the game with 74 yards. Kyle Allen scored a touchdown late in the game and tried to take the lead but an Allen to Taylor McLaurin pass was incomplete. Honestly, I would've done the PAT but it was a gutsy call to make and we would be talking about the 2-4 Football Team instead of the 1-5 Football Team.

Next week:
Washington: vs Dallas; NY Giants: @ Philadelphia

TW: 3-2; CV: 3-2

Houston 36, Tennessee 42 (F/OT): TW: Titans; CV: Titans
Derrick Henry is pretty good at football. DeShaun Watson threw for 335 yards with four touchdowns. David Johnson ran for 57 yards with a touchdown while Watson also ran for 26 yards. Will Fuller had a touchdown catch while compiling 123 receiving yards. Ryan Tannehill threw for 364 yards with four touchdowns with an interception. Derrick Henry ran over the Texans defense with 212 yards with two touchdowns, his longest run was 94 yards. The game took for a while to finish with so much scoring but somehow... Tennessee is 5-0.

Next week:
Houston: vs Green Bay; Tennessee: vs Pittsburgh

TW: 4-2; CV: 4-2

Chicago 23, Carolina 16: TW: Panthers; CV: Bears
Chicago's defense kept Carolina from really going anywhere in this game. Nick Foles threw for 198 yards with a touchdown while throwing an interception. David Montgomery ran for 58 yards and Nick Foles scored a rushing touchdown with four yards rushing. Teddy Bridgewater threw for 219 yards with two interceptions. Mike Davis ran for 52 yards with a touchdown and Bridgewater ran for 48 yards. Have to give credit where credit is due, Chicago may not put up 40 points but they play solid defense with an offense that can put up enough points to win.

Next week:
Chicago: @ LA Rams; Carolina: @ New Orleans

TW: 4-3; CV: 5-2

Baltimore 30, Philadelphia 28: TW: Ravens; CV: Ravens
Oh Philly, you almost came back. Lamar Jackson threw for 186 yards with a touchdown while running for 108 yards with a touchdown. Gus Edwards ran for 26 yards with a touchdown. For a while, the Eagles offense couldn't get anything going. Carson Wentz finished with 213 yards passing with two touchdowns and threw for zero interceptions. Miles Sanders had another great game with 118 yards rushing and Wentz ran for 49 yards with a touchdown. For the first three quarters, the Eagles scored six points, in the 4th quarter... they scored 22. A worthy effort just not enough to get a win.

Next week:
Baltimore: Bye; Philadelphia: vs NY Giants

TW: 5-3; CV: 6-2

Atlanta 40, Minnesota 23: TW: Vikings; CV: Vikings
Well the Atlanta blowing a lead memes are dead. Matt Ryan threw for 371 yards with four touchdowns. Todd Gurley was the leading rusher in the game with 47 yards. Julio Jones had 137 receiving yards with two touchdowns. Kirk Cousins threw for 343 yards with three touchdowns but threw three interceptions. Old habits die hard for Cousins I suppose. Minnesota's running game wouldn't get much without Dalvin Cook as Alexander Mattison ran for 26 yards. Granted the Vikings were behind early in this game. Is it possible that Mike Zimmer's seat could be getting warmer... I would say yes.

Next week:
Atlanta: vs Detroit; Minnesota: Bye

TW: 5-4; CV: 6-3

NY Jets 0, Miami 24: TW: Dolphins; CV: Dolphins
In November 2019, Tua Tagovailoa had a potential career-ending injury. In October 2020, Tua Tagovailoa went 2 for 2 for 9 yards in an NFL game in his NFL debut. Joe Flacco started for the Jets and finished with 186 yards with an interception. Frank Gore got most of the carries for the Jets due to Le'Veon Bell getting released on Tuesday. Gore ran for 46 yards on 11 carries. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 191 yards with three touchdowns but also threw two interceptions in the game. Myles Gaskin ran for 91 yards. Great story for Tua who could be Miami's future.

Next week:
NY Jets: vs Buffalo; Miami: Bye

TW: 6-4; CV: 7-3

Green Bay 10, Tampa Bay 38: TW: Packers; CV: Packers
The game can be told in two parts: Score before McCringleberry dance 10-0 Green Bay, score after McCringleberry dance 38-10 Tampa Bay. Aaron Rodgers threw for 160 yards with two interceptions. He actually threw them on consecutive drives. Aaron Jones ran for 15 yards with a touchdown and Jamaal Williams ran for 34 yards. Tom Brady threw for 166 yards with two touchdowns. So I said in the picks post that the Packers have a top-10 rush defense, well Ronald Jones destroyed the Packers defense for 113 yards with two rushing touchdowns. I was surprised by the score but I wasn't surprised that the Packers lost. They haven't played any team that was good (maybe the exception was New Orleans) and they got out hustled and out rushed, just like against San Francisco last season.

Next week:
Green Bay: @ Houston; Tampa Bay: @ Las Vegas

TW: 6-5; CV: 7-4

LA Rams 16, San Francisco 24: TW: Rams; CV: Rams
After turning in a terrible performance last week, Jimmy Garoppolo definitely had a rebound game. Jared Goff threw for 198 yards with two touchdowns with an interception. Darrell Henderson continued to show off his running ability with an 88 yard performance in the game. Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 268 yards with three touchdowns. Raheem Mostert ran for 65 yards in the game but could miss some time after this season. It seemed that the 49ers are back to form but much like anything, injury rues the day.

Next week:
LA Rams: vs Chicago; San Francisco: @ New England

TW: 6-6; CV: 7-5

Kansas City 26, Buffalo 17: TW: Bills; CV: Chiefs
The Bills have potential to be one of the best teams in the AFC. Undisciplined play and penalties really kill. Patrick Mahomes threw for 225 yards with two touchdowns. Mahomes rushed for 36 yards. Darrel Williams rushed for a touchdown while racking up 26 yards. The real star was rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire with 161 yards rushing, further adding his resume to Rookie of the Year. Josh Allen threw for 122 yards with two touchdowns with an interception, certainly his lowest passing yardage this season for Allen. He would also rush for 42 yards, leading the team for rushing in this game. Maybe Buffalo should next time pay attention where the out of bounds area is at when they do unnecessary roughness penalties. This game should've been a bigger point margin, it wasn't even close.

Next week:
Kansas City: @ Denver; Buffalo: @ NY Jets

TW: 6-7; CV: 8-5

Arizona 38, Dallas 10: TW: Cardinals; CV: Cardinals
Oh boy. This one was UGLY. Kyler Murray remains undefeated at AT&T Stadium at 7-0. He threw for 188 yards with two touchdowns while rushing for 74 yards with a rushing touchdown. Kenyan Drake absolutely went off in this game with 164 yards with two rushing touchdowns. Andy Dalton threw for 266 yards with a touchdown pass and two interceptions. Ezekiel Elliot rushed for 49 yards in the game but his fumbling issues this season reared its ugly head as he lost two fumbles in the game. The sad part is that Dallas is still in 1st place in the NFC East with a 2-4 record. Safe to say, maybe Mike McCarthy wasn't the right man for the job, and perhaps Jerry Jones realizes that.

Next week:
Arizona: vs Seattle; Dallas: @ Washington

TW: 7-7; CV: 9-5
