NFL 2024 Week 15 Recap

 Hello readers! Another week of National Football League action has come to an end. The week that was Week 15 brought us some crazy storylines. Such storylines like a field goal fest in Santa Clara, a blowout in New Jersey, a scoring fest in Detroit, a defensive battle in Cleveland and a blowout in Los Angeles. All those games and more in this week's recap post!

NFL Week 15 Freaky Stat

The Los Angeles Rams hadn't won a game without scoring a touchdown since defeating the Seattle Seahawks in a 9-3 contest in 2016.

LA Rams 12, San Francisco 6

Pick: 49ers

The Rams and 49ers battle it out in the rain. Matthew Stafford hit 16 of 27 passes for 160 yards in the game. He didn't throw any touchdowns or interceptions. Kyren Williams had 29 carries for 108 yards. The longest run in the game was a Matthew Stafford run for a 11-yard gain. Puka Nacua had seven catches for 97 yards with a catch that went for a 51-yard gain and lead to a field goal. It was a game where the Rams would struggle to convert 3rd downs but would eventually get going in the 2nd quarter with their first field goal. The defense would play well in this game through the rest of the game eventually pushing six players against Brock Purdy who got sacked and then the clock went 0:00. For the Rams, they had 302 total yards in the game and improve to 8-6 on the season. 

Brock Purdy would hit 14 of 31 passes for 142 yards with an interception. A quiet game for him in a season that feels like career lows for him. Isaac Guerendo had 16 carries for 57 yards and had a 16-yard run that was the longest run for the 49ers. George Kittle had four catches for 61 yards and had a catch that went for a 33-yard gain that was the longest pass play for the 49ers. It would be the 49ers offense that would struggle in this one as the rain would put a stop to them. With a limited group to work with the 49ers would falter. The defense would do its job holding the Rams to four field goals but in order to win games you have to score more points than the other team. For the 49ers, they had 191 total yards and drop to 6-8 on the season with their playoff hopes dropping a lot.

Baltimore 35, NY Giants 14

Pick: Ravens

Baltimore routs New York. Lamar Jackson hit 21 of 25 passes for 290 yards with five touchdowns. It was a performance that gave him some nods for MVP votes. He had 45 fantasy points. Of the five touchdowns, Rashod Bateman had two touchdowns, Justice Hill had one, Mark Andrews had one and Devontez Walker had the other touchdown. Derrick Henry had 14 carries for 67 yards in the game. Lamar Jackson had six carries for 65 yards with a long run of 21 yards in the game. The longest pass paly was a catch by Rashod Bateman that went for a 49-yard gain. It was overall a game that the Ravens needed to win as they have a game on Saturday and a game on Wednesday for Christmas Day. The Giants couldn't do a whole lot against their offense. For the Ravens they improve to 9-5 with 445 total yards of offense. 

Tommy DeVito would start for the Giants with Drew Lock out with injury. He hit 10 of 13 passes for 68 yards but wouldn't finish the game. He left with a concussion. Tommy Boyle had 12 of 24 passing for 123 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The touchdown went to Malik Nabers. Tyrone Tracy Jr. was the leading rusher with 10 carries for 31 yards and had a long run of 12 yards. Devin Singletary had eight carries for 25 yards with a touchdown run that got the Giants in the board. Malik Nabers had 10 catches for 82 yards in the game. The longest pass play was a catch by Wandale Robinson for a 25-yard gain. The loss was another in a long losing streak that Giants fans haven't witnessed since the 1970's. It was also another week where a plane was flying over the stadium telling the Mara family to sell the team. For the Giants, they drop to 2-12while getting 236 total yards.

Cincinnati 37, Tennessee 27

Pick: Bengals

The Bengals get a win but it wasn't quite an easy one. Joe Burrow hit 26 of 37 passes for 271 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Tee Higgins, Chase Brown and Sam Hubbard were the players that caught the passes from Burrow for touchdowns. Cincinnati had an interception and a fumble in the 1st quarter while the 2nd interception happened in the 3rd quarter. Chase Brown had 25 carries for 97 yards with a touchdown. His 13-yard run was the longest run for the Bengals Ja'Marr Chase had nine catches for 94 yards with a 29-yard play that he caught. It was a game that the Bengals needed to win as they keep their playoff hopes alive but the turnovers didn't make it easy for the Bengals. For the Bengals, they improve to 6-8 on the season with 370 total yards. 

It was a rough day for a quarterback on Tennessee. Will Levis started for the Titans. He hit 8 of 12 passes for 89 yards and had three interceptions in the game and had one of those passes returned for a pick-six. He would get benched for Mason Rudolph. The red nosed quarterback hit 21 of 26 passes for 209 yards with two touchdowns and an interception of his own. Tyjae Spears and Josh Whyle were the Titans that caught the passes from Rudolph. All in all, both quarterbacks had four interceptions. Tony Pollard had 17 carries for 45 yards with a touchdown. Tyjae Spears had a touchdown run as well. The longest run was a Calvin Ridley run for a 19-yard gain. Tyjae Spears had six catches for 87 yards with a catch that went for a 43-yard gain that was the longest pass play for the Titans. The Titans turnovers would cost them in this one but turnovers by the Bengals would hurt them as well. Just an ugly game. For the Titans, they drop to 3-11 on the season with 374 total yards.

Dallas 30, Carolina 14

Pick: Cowboys

Cooper Rush takes care of business in Carolina. Rush hit 18 of 29 passes for 214 yards with three touchdowns. The three touchdowns went to CeeDee Lamb, Jake Tolbert and Jalen Brooks. Rico Dowdle would be key to the offense in this one as he had a big day with 25 carries for 149 yards. The longest run was a Kavonte Turpin run of 16 yards. CeeDee Lamb had nine catches for 116 yards with a catch that went for a 28-yard gain. That was the longest pass play for the Cowboys. The game was a big win for the Cowboys as they had a rough loss against the Bengals last week. In efforts to stay in the playoff hunt, it was important to win but a Commanders win hinders their chances. Brandon Aubrey had three of four for field goals. For the Cowboys they improve to 6-8 with 410 total yards. 

Bryce Young hit 19 of 28 passes for 219 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Jalen Coker was the Panther that caught the pass from Young. Bryce Young was also a runner on one touchdown play from six yards. Chuba Hubbard had 10 carries for 32 yards with a 12-yard run being the longest run in the game for Carolina. Jalen Coker was the leading receiver with four catches for 110 yards and an 83-yard catch that was for his touchdown. The interceptions hurt as pretty much everything went wrong for the Panthers in this game. They couldn't do a whole lot on offense and the defense couldn't do a whole lot either. For the Panthers, they drop to 3-11 on the season and their playoff hopes end while getting 235 total yards of offense.

Kansas City 21, Cleveland 7

Pick: Chiefs

Three touchdowns enough to quiet the Browns. Patrick Mahomes hit 19 of 38 passes for 159 yards with two touchdowns. The touchdowns went to Noah Gray and JuJu Smith-Schuster. Carson Wentz would get some playtime with 2 of 2 passing for 20 yards in the game. The leading rusher was Kareem Hunt with 13 carries for 45 yards in the game. The longest run was a 21-yard run by Xavier Worthy which resulted with a touchdown. Xavier Worthy had six catches for 46 yards. The longest pass play was a catch by Samaje Perine for a 23-yard gain. There was some concern for Patrick Mahomes after taking a couple of hits in a play where it looked like he was limping and have his ankle taped. Will have to see what happens as the Chiefs have two more games on 10 days. For the Chiefs, they had 311 total yards with a 13-1 record. 

Jameis Winston would have a rough one. He hit 16 of 25 passes for 146 yards with three interceptions. It would be enough for him to see the sideline. Dorian Thompson-Robinson had 4 of 9 passes for 18 yards with a touchdown. The Browns had a long run of 62-yards that went for a touchdown by Jerome Ford. Ford had seven carries for 84 yards. It was their lone bright spot for this game. Jerry Jeudy was the leading receiver for the Brownies with 11 catches for 108 yards. Jerome Ford had a catch that went for a 26-yard gain. It was a rough one for the Browns but the score was somewhat within their reach but they would get overwhelmed with the turnovers and bad play by Jameis Winston. For the Browns, they drop to 3-11 on the season with 266 total yards.

Miami 12, Houston 20

Pick: Texans

Playoff hopes diminish for the Dolphins. Tua Tagovailoa hit 29 of 40 passes for 196 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. Something that you couldn't have if you want to get into the playoffs. De'Von Achane had 12 carries for 41 yards in the game and had a long run of seven yards in the game. Malik Washington had five catches for 52 yards in the game. Jonnu Smith had a touchdown catch while catching eight other passes for 48 yards. The longest pass play was a 21-yard gain for a catch by Tyreek Hill. Miami lost due to the turnovers as they diminished their chances to really get a win or put up points. It also adds to a trend in the Mike McDaniel era: he is 3-13 against teams with a winning record. Not good if you want to be the best team in the NFL. You have to beat the best. For the Dolphins, they drop to 6-8 and put up 224 total yards. 

CJ Stroud hit 18 of 26 passes for 131 yards with two touchdowns. Both touchdowns went to Nico Collins in the game. Dare Ogunbowale had a carry for a 35-yard gain that was the longest run in the game that happened on a fake punt attempt. Joe Mixon had five catches for 33 yards to be the leading receiver for the Texans. The longest pass play was a 15-yard gain by Joe Mixon and Tank Dell. The Texans didn't do a whole lot on offense but when it matters most, they scored more points than the Dolphins despite having the lesser on the offensive categories. A win is a win and the Texans will take it. For the Texans, they improve to 9-5 while compiling just 181 total yards.

NY Jets 32, Jacksonville 25

Pick: Jets

The Jets get a win in Jacksonville. Aaron Rodgers hit 16 of 30 passes for 289 yards with three touchdowns. Davante Adams had two and Garrett Wilson had one of the three touchdowns thrown by Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers was the leading rusher for the Jets with six carries for 45 yards. Ashtyn Davis had a 21-yard run that was the longest run for the Jets in the game. Davante Adams had his best day as a Jet in this game with nine catches for 198 yards with a catch that went for a 71-yard gain that was his 2nd touchdown in the game. It was a late win for the Jets but a win is a win as the playoff hopes dashed a few weeks ago. For the Jets, they improve to 4-10 on the season with 400 total yards. 

Mac Jones had 31 of 46 passes for 294 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. One of interceptions happened on the last play in the game for the Jaguars on a drive that had a chance to tie the game. Both touchdown passes went to Brian Thomas Jr. Travis Etienne had 14 carries for 65 yards in the game. Tank Bigsby had a 14-yard run that was the longest run in the game with 11 carries for 42 yards. Brian Thomas Jr. had 10 catches for 105 yards with a 41-yard catch that was the longest pass play for the Jaguars. Cam Little went perfect with 4 of 4 on field goal attempts in the game. The interception really hurt the Jaguars chances but it has been a season of rough for the Jaguars. For the Jaguars, they drop to 3-11 on the season while getting 421 total yards in the game.

Washington 20, New Orleans 19

Pick: Commanders

Washington survives a scare in New Orleans. Jayden Daniels hit 25 of 31 passes for 226 yards with two touchdowns in the 1st half. Terry McLaurin was the recipient of the passes from Daniels for scores. Jayden Daniels was the leading rusher for the Commanders with 11 carries for 66 yards and had a 24-yard run that was the longest run for the Commanders. Brian Robinson Jr. had 21 carries for 65 yards in the game. Terry McLaurin had seven catches for 73 yards and had a catch that went for a 25-yard gain in the game. Washington would get touchdowns early in the game and would only get two field goals in the 2nd half. The Commanders would miss a field goal late in the 4th quarter and it was a risky move as it gave the Saints some decent field position but a stand would hold as they got a win. For the Commanders, they improve to 9-5 on the season with 326 total yards in the game. 

Jake Haener got his first start in the NFL in this game. He hit 4 of 10 passes for 49 yards with an interception. He would get benched in favor for Spencer Rattler who had 10 of 21 passes for 135 yards with a touchdown. Cedrick Wilson Jr. had a pass that went for a 21-yard gain for a score to Alvin Kamara. Kendre Miller had nine catches for 46 yards with a 17-yard gain that was the longest run for the Saints. Marquez Valdes-Scantling had two catches for 64 yards in the game with a 39-yard gain on one catch that was the longest pass play for the Saints. Offensive ineptitude would cost the Saints in this one as they would not score a touchdown until the 3rd quarter. The Saints had a chance to win it but an incomplete pass to Juwan Johnson would be the last play in the game and the Commanders would win this one. For the Saints, they drop to 5-9 on the season with 245 total yards in the game.

Buffalo 48, Detroit 42

Pick: Bills

The Bills and Lions do battle as they combine for 90 points! Josh Allen hit 23 of 34 passes for 362 yards with two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns. He had 11 carries for 68 yards in the game. Khalil Shakir and Ray Davis were the Bills that caught the passes from Allen for scores. James Cook had 14 carries for 105 yards with two touchdowns running as well. He had a 41-yard run that was for his 2nd rushing touchdown. Ty Johnson had five catches for 114 yards to be the Bills leading receiver. Keon Coleman had a catch that went for a 64-yard gain. Buffalo would put up points in this one but fortunately the defense would hold off the Lions just enough to get a win. The Bills would find holes in the Lions defense on the numbers and they took advantage of them. For the Bills, they improve to 11-3 and had 559 total yards. 

Jared Goff hit 38 of 59 passes for 494 yards with five touchdowns. Just a bit short of the big 500 yards. The Lions that caught the passes were AmonRa St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, Jameson Williams, Tim Patrick and Dan Skipper. Jahmyr Gibbs had eight carries for 31 yards with a touchdown and had a 13-yard run that was the longest run in the game for Detroit. AmonRa St. Brown had 14 catches for 193 yards and had a catch that went for a 66-yard score to be the longest pass play for the Lions. Sam LaPorta had seven catches for 111 yards. Overall, the offense had a great game but the defense, one of the Lions bedrocks, was kind of exposed in this one. The game came down to two plays: a fumble by St. Brown and a onside kick that was recovered by Buffalo that almost went for a touchdown. Back to the drawing board for the Lions. For the Lions, they drop to 12-2 with 521 total yards in the game.

Indianapolis 13, Denver 31

Pick: Broncos

21 unanswered points in the 4th quarter dooms the Colts. Anthony Richardson hit 17 of 38 passes for 172 yards with two costly interceptions in the 2nd half. He would score the lone touchdown for the Colts on a 23-yard run. Jonathan Taylor rushed 22 times for 107 yards in the game. He might've had a touchdown but he did a Leon Lett and let the ball drop before it crossed the plane. Michael Pittman had six catches for 58 yards. Anthony Gould had a catch that was the longest pass for a 23-yard gain. The game was somewhat in the Colts favor in the game with a 13-10 lead heading into the 4th quarter. Four turnovers would cost them as the Broncos took advantage of them. The offense faltered and the defense wouldn't be able to handle it. For the Broncos, they drop to 6-8 with their playoff lives at risk with 310 total yards in the game. 

Bo Nix hit 20 of 33 passes for 130 yards with three touchdowns but also had three interceptions in the game. He was also the leading rusher with eight carries for 23 yards with a 16-yard run being the longest run in the game. Of the three touchdowns Cortland Sutton, Adam Trautman and Nate Adkins had the touchdowns. Cortland Sutton had three catches for 32 yards and had a catch for a 20-yard gain in the game. The surge would begin with a Nate Adkins touchdown. The next score happened on a Colts trick play that would get solved by Nik Bonitto in a pick-six. The last touchdown was a Cortland Sutton score that would get the game to the final 31-13 score. All in all, the Broncos would score three touchdowns in eight minutes. For the Broncos, they improve to 9-5 with 193 total yards. It is their first winning season since 2016.

New England 17, Arizona 30

Pick: Patriots

Two James Conner touchdowns give Cardinals a win. Drake Maye hit 19 of 23 passes for 202 yards with a touchdown pass to DeMario Douglas. He would also toss an interception in the game. Rhamondre Stevenson was the leading rusher with 13 carries for 69 yards. Antonio Gibson had the longest run for the Patriots with a 29-yard run. Drake Maye would score a rushing touchdown in the game. Kendrick Bourne had three catches for 44 yards with a 37-yard catch being the longest in the game for the Patriots. All in all, the game was similar to their past games this season, the offense struggles and the defense would not be able to stop the run effectively. For the Patriots, they drop to 3-11 with 311 yards of offense in the game. 

Kyler Murray hit 23 of 30 passes for 224 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Murray would miss a couple of snaps due to a possible concussion. Clayton Tune would hit two passes for eight yards. Murray would pass the tests and he came back into the game. James Conner had 16 carries for 110 yards with two touchdowns with holes quite big. He had a 53-yard run that was the longest run in the game for the Cardinals. Trey McBride had nine catches for 87 yards to be the leading receiver. He also broke a record for most catches without a touchdown in a single season. Poor him. The longest pass play was a catch by Greg Dortch for a 39-yard gain. It was a game the Cardinals needed to stay in the NFC West hunt. For the Cardinals, they improve to 7-7 with 395 total yards in the game.

Pittsburgh 13, Philadelphia 27

Pick: Steelers

The Eagles take care of business against the Steelers. Russell Wilson hit 14 of 22 passes for 128 yards with a touchdown. The touchdown pass went to Pat Friermuth in the 2nd quarter. Najee Harris would not be a factor in the game as he had six carries for 14 yards. Russell Wilson had the longest run in the game for Pittsburgh with an 8-yard run. Calvin Austin III had five catches for 65 yards in the game with a 31-yard play caught by him for that much of a gain. It was the longest gain for the Steelers. Pittsburgh, who hadn't won in Philadelphia since 1965, would struggle in this game. The offense would struggle in this game, especially the running game. It is a setback to a season where the Ravens are right behind them in the AFC North standings. For the Steelers, they drop to 10-4 with 163 total yards in the game. 

Jalen Hurts hit 25 of 32 passes for 290 yards with two touchdowns. The two touchdowns went to AJ Brown and Devonta Smith. Saquon Barkley who had a streak of four straight 100-yard rushing games would be held to just 65 yards on 19 carries. The Steelers would do well in that regard. Jalen Hurts had 15 carries for 45 yards with a touchdown and had a long run for a 23-yard gain. AJ Brown had eight catches for 110 yards. Devonta Smith had 11 catches for 109 yards with a catch that went for a 22-yard gain. He and Grant Calcaterra both had the longest pass play for a 22-yard gain in the game. According to interviews, Saquon Barkley was dealing with a minor injury but wouldn't detail what it was. Safe to say he and the Eagles will have a bit more longer rest than the Steelers. Let alone two games in 10 days. For the Eagles, they improve to 12-2 and tie the Lions for best record in the NFC.

Tampa Bay 40, LA Chargers 17

Pick: Buccaneers

A bad day for the Chargers. Baker Mayfield hit 22 of 27 passes for 288 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. Two of those touchdowns went to Mike Evans and Rachaad White and Jalen McMillan had one each for the passing touchdowns. Most of the scoring happened in the 2nd half with 27 points. Bucky Irving had 15 carries for 117 yards and had a 54-yard run being the longest run in the game. Mike Evans had nine catches for 159 yards in the game in a career that is more than stellar. He had a catch for a 57-yard gain that came as a result of a touchdown for the 2nd time. Tampa needed the win as a buffer in case the Falcons win on Monday night. For the Buccaneers, they improve to 8-6 with 506 total yards in the game.

Justin Herbert hit 21 of 33 passes for 195 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston were the Chargers that caught the passes from Herbert for scores. Gus Edwards had eight carries for 23 yards in the game and had a 8-yard run that was the longest run in the game for the Chargers. Ladd McConkey had five catches for 58 yards to be the leading receiver for the Chargers. Stone Smartt (nice name buddy) had the longest play for a pass with a catch for a 31-yard gain. The game was a rough one for the Chargers who would've liked to solidify playoff position. With Denver's win against Indianapolis, the Chargers slip to the 7th and final playoff spot. This Thursday's game might be the biggest game for the Chargers-Broncos series in a long time. For the Chargers, they drop to 8-6 with 206 total yards in the game.

Green Bay 30, Seattle 13

Pick: Packers

The Packers bully the Seahawks on the road. Jordan Love hit 20 of 27 passes for 229 yards with two touchdowns. The two touchdowns went to Romeo Doubs. Josh Jacobs had 26 carries for 94 yards with a touchdown. He had a run of 19 yards that was the longest run in the game for Green Bay. Christian Watson had three catches for 56 yards to be the leading receiver for the Packers. He had a catch that went for a 36-yard gain. He did look to be shaken up a bit on one play late in the game. Hopefully he is alright. I think it was more of a game of how the defense responded in a hostile environment as they had seven sacks on Seattle's quarterbacks. For the Packers, they had 369 total yards and improve to 10-4 on the season. 

Geno Smith started in the game for Seattle. He hit 15 of 19 passes for 149 yards with an interception. He wouldn't finish it as he got injured and left with a knee injury. Sam Howell would come in relief and wouldn't get the ball rolling. He hit 5 of 14 passes for 24 yards with an interception. He had a chance to get cut the Packer lead to a 23-20 lead but it was the interception that would do him in. The Packers would score on the ensuing drive. Zach Charbonnet had eight carries for 54 yards with a touchdown and had 24-yard run that was the longest run in the game. Jaxon Smith-Njigba had 10 catches for 83 yards and had a catch that went for a 25-yard gain that was the longest pass play for the Seahawks. A rough one for Seahawks to watch as Geno Smith would go down and their gameplan faltered and will now have to contend with the prospect of the Rams and Cardinals creeping up on them with the 49ers not far behind them. For the Seahawks, they drop to 8-6 with 208 total yards in the game.

Chicago 12, Minnesota 30

Pick: Vikings

The Vikings take down the Bears at home. Caleb Williams hit 18 of 31 passes for 191 yards with a touchdown pass to Keenan Allen in the 4th quarter. Dandre Swift had 19 carries for 79 yards with a 17-yard run being the longest run in the game for the Bears. Keenan Allen had six catches for 82 yards to be the leading receiver for the Bears. The longest pass play was a catch by Rome Odunze for a 29-yard gain. Much like the rest of their season, the Bears really got outclassed by their opponents offense and really took them a long time to get going offensively. They didn't score a touchdown until the 4th quarter of all things. For the Bears, they drop to 4-10 on the season while getting 283 total yards in the game. 

Minnesota would have its white out uniforms in the game. Sam Darnold would be alright in this game with 24 of 40 passes for 231 yards with a touchdown pass to Justin Jefferson. He also threw an interception in the game. Aaron Jones had 18 carries for 86 yards with a rushing touchdown. Cam Akers had 10 carries for 24 yards with a rushing touchdown as well. The longest run was a Aaron Jones run of 14 yards. Justin Jefferson had seven catches for 73 yards in the game with a catch that went for a 21-yard gain. Despite the score, the game kind of felt a bit closer than the final would show. The Vikings kind of looked off a bit but would have their running game do the rest of the offense in this one. They look pretty good heading into the holidays. For the Vikings, they improve to 12-2 and had 329 total yards in the game.

Pick: Falcons

The Falcons get a rebound win in Las Vegas. Kirk Cousins hit 11 of 17 passes for 112 yards with a touchdown pass to Drake London while throwing an interception. Bijan Robinson had 22 carries for 125 yards with a 29-yard run that was the longest run in the game for the Falcons. Drake London was the leading receiver with three catches for 53 yards and had a pass play for a catch that went for a 30-yard gain. The game was a big one for the Falcons who get their first win since November 3rd. The win keeps them in the running for the NFC South race. For the Falcons, they improve to 7-7 on the season while getting 261 total yards in the game. 

Desmond Ridder started the game for the Raiders. He hit 23 of 39 passes for 208 yards with a touchdown pass and two interceptions. One of the interceptions happened on the last play in the game during the Raiders final march. Ameer Abdullah was the one that caught the pass from Ridder for a touchdown. Desmond Ridder was the leading rusher for the Raiders with five rushes for 28 yards. the longest run was an Alexander Mattison run of 12 yards. Jakobi Meyers caught five passes for 59 yards. The longest pass play was a catch that went for a 24-yard gain. The Raiders weren't having a successful season this year and the game just proves that their running game is a mess and their offense is a mess as well. It's almost over Raiders fans. For the Raiders, they drop to 2-12 on the season with 249 total yards in the game.
